Better by what measurement? Compared to what?

Last night was a 54 point turnaround in game, with 8-9 of their best 23 missing. We had arguably our best possible team in last night, except for Archer.
The Pies game last year was also a 54 point tunaround, but they had a much stronger team in.

If you're blurring the line to include after the bye last year fair enough.

If you're saying that we are no different this year to where we were at in 22 and 23 then probably no point trying to close that gap.

We drew with the reigning premier, matched it with the top team for three quarters (they were undermanned but big deal, this is new). We were two straight kicks from sitting above Essendon and Port on the ladder.

More importantly our defence is improving, we've got half a dozen youngsters with a high ceiling and clearly things are beginning to click for longer stretches.

The one thing I won't argue is that we are becoming mentally tough. Clearly that's a massive issue with the same question marks that we've had the past five years. It's quite the achievement to become a better team while lacking mental fortitude.

The Coll hbs were running forward hard - markov wasnt even in the team on sat morning and marked one inside 50. Pretty damning.

Happened right in front of me - not sure what happened there. Could have been having a laugh? I'm not angry at Konstanty for letting him run deep into the forward pocket, who dishes off to a defender sitting on the boundary. And if we got a turnover Jacob was walking back to the goals.

Does anyone know the guy with the moustache and blue jacket on the right side of goal telling the fans to lift the entire match? Talk about passion.

Not once all season have I thought, ah that why we got got Daniel.

He’s rubbish. Turnover merchant and complete squib. Effectively paid a top 3 pick for him.
I’ve said this before, he is the hood ornament on this shit truck.

No other acquisition embodies the ineptitude of this footy department in every facet of recruiting, trading, drafting and coaching.

I’ve hated this trade even before it eventuated.

Logue is cooked. Body 80%, mind 100%

Happy to have fun in the magoos and collect his 750k then move on once his contract finishes.
Like so many it seems. This will be Darling and Parker too before long.

And Daniel, well… if he was going at 100% body and mind he still would be shit.

Extremely disappointed at the way we run the game out, especially as to me it seemed like an effort thing. Which has been unlike what we have seen for a month.

Once again we didn’t hit the scoreboard enough when we were on top in general play. Collingwood are sensational at limiting the damage when the other side is on top, and crushing the scoreboard when they have their run.

The people on here the roll out the ‘VFL team’ thing for Collingwood are full deads**ts. The strength of Collingwood is their evenness across their full squad. It’s like saying Geelong beat the bulldogs VFL team because Darcy, Treloar, Jones, Garcia and Weightman werent playing. The Collingwood side that beat us last night, beat all sides in the comp bar 4 or 5.

Hill played - MOTY
Sidey played
Moore played
Maynard played full game

that's 4 off the top of my head
Last year they were missing Mihocek, Cox, McStay and Elliott out of their forward line, for a start.

Last time (but not last night) for Pies Kreuger, Harrison, McInnes, Dean, Noble, Macrae, Jiath, Moore, Sidebottom - in last night (but not playing last year) Houston, Membrey, Long, Elliot, Allen,Perryman, Mihocek, Cox. That’s upgrades everywhere except Moore and Sidebottom - plus the system has beaten almost everyone this season so they are just objectively better, despite the ins and outs they’ve had every week.

I’m 78 and coming home last night I was confronted with the prospect of never experiencing the realistic expectation of going to a game confident of a win.

Our list is very poor and our game plan do we have one?

In my view we have 12 players who won’t be in the next successful team, 13 players who have question marks against their being successful and 17 who form the skeleton of our next successful team (2027??). On top of this there are players in the second two groups who may be mentally destroyed and may never achieve their potential.

I can’t see us getting out of the bottom 4 over the next two years

Well that is a point of view
On the other hand we have been quite close for a few weeks with hardeman Maley plus fos looking likely
Disappointing that some of the high picks not putting it together consistently yet but think we are on the up myself

We can beat Richmond and West Coast probably coming home although WCE will be favourites.

4.5 wins for the year, how do we judge that at years end?

Don’t agree, it would be more than 4 or 5.

And, I can think of only one team that would have been annihilated like that.

Moore, McStay, Hill, Pendles, Sidebottom, Schultz and JDG. So 7 instead of 5? And Maynard got injured during the game. What’s the amount before the team turns into a VFL like some have touted? 5+.

Who is that ‘only one team’ that would get belted? Is it Port? Who lost by 50 to the same team who got rolled by a ‘VFL squad’ in the pies 2 weeks ago?

Or is it the Bombers who lost by 91 to a ‘VFL squad’ bulldogs last week? (Sorry, I forgot, 5 missing best 22 is still an AFL team, missing 5 plus is VFL). Maybe it’s the Tigers who lost to us last week.

Pass mark should be 8/9 Wins as a min anything below should be unacceptable for a team 6 years into a rebuild and so many top end kids

Your rebuild will surpass ours as early as this year...
I think we still need 4-5 top end draft picks then a couple of free agents to fill the gaps
4-5 wins in 2025 and similar to 2026 with an improvement to 8/9 in 2027 would be my expectation and hopefully challenge for a spot in finals 28/29

Its a long process

If anything it was just a smart tactical move to rest their older players in favour of kids who would probably get a game at any other club if they weren't stuck behind champions of the game like Pendlebury and Sidebottom. They ran us off our feet. You could see in the last quarter that they were looking to run and break up our structures at every opportunity, probably knowing we'd be tired after the gruelling Richmond game. We're simply not at that level as a squad yet and it's ridiculous to think that we would be. Staying with them for 3 quarters is an ok result, nothing to despair over.

As long as they have senior players to learn from, you'll be well ahead of us in no time...

Our rebuild has been an objective failure

5 years at most. You can't count 2020 as part of the rebuild. We had a veteran team. It's what started this.

Three years of off field chaos from 21-23 also needs to be considered.

Regardless, I thought 6 was a "pass", 8 would have been a "success".

We've got some work to do from 2.5 at the halfway mark.

When the rebuild started could be debated and could argue that the rebuild started when Boomer and Petrie were cut
if we look at Norths ladder positions 2018 looks like an anomaly finishing 9th and 2017 was the 1st year but there is arguments each way and Cartlon supporters adjusted their rebuild starting date 5 times now.

But if 6 wins was your pass (which should not have been ) then realistically your team is on track and should get to close to that no problem. But i would be very disappointed if i was a North supporter expecting only 6 wins for 2025

You haven't followed this closely enough since 2021 to know what you're talking about to be quite honest.

2018 was an anomaly. And 2019 was a sugar hit from a new coach. "Unleash the Geisch" type stuff.

Regardless of when it started, we are where we are, and we have to be realistic. 3 wins to 6 would have been acceptable.

Keep on drinking the koolaid. Richmond just aren't a good side at the moment and we fell over line.
Six years down bottom. But yeah, accuracy is what is derailing this juggernaut.
We invite the pressure because our ball movement is so slow. We make everything harder for ourselves by playing this way because there is very little space to work with both offensively and defensively..
