I was keen on him in his draft year — a genuine 6'3 " big-bodied mid in the Josh Kennedy mold. I thought he would have been a good addition to our midfield mix with a point of difference. I was surprised that Hawthorn let him go.

I had the thought watching the game on Saturday that the Pies had three players, Long, Lipinski, and Membury, that they have paid bugger all for, are playing significant roles in a very good team, and that we didn't have a look at any of them.

I believe, for better or for worse, we have officially arrived at the other end of the spectrum - performance-wise. Since 2000 until 2019, North were lauded for the fact that we consistently punched above our weight. The flip side of this was that we were never taken seriously. Once finals came, we would be found wanting. In 2025, things have changed right around - North are getting lambasted for failing to deliver on their potential. Hard though it is to endure 5 years of absolute dross, I prefer the present variation - just as long as we turn things around and learn what’s required to actually win.

The trouble with the current iteration is the club thinks we are guaranteed to turn things around via talent and persistence.

I don't think it's anywhere near as easy as that and the losing seasons have compounded to a point where we are downtrodden and on the verge of completely broken.

If we can't break that cycle in the 2nd half of this season, thats when I'll know we are truly done for. Clarko will be out of answers, the playing group will know he's out of answers and the negative outcomes of this will have league wide ramifications.

The AFL will surely step in, players will leave, all ooc/free agents will stay away, potential sponsor trouble etc etc. We could actually be on our knees.

Anyway, the boys can party over the bye and we'll worry about Wet Toast about a week from now...

Everyone keeps repeating the mantra "we're coming from a long way back". I'm generally pretty positive and level-headed about things but **** me how far back is it!!

Start of last season was horrible, I can at least see progress now but it is so slow and incremental even my patience is wearing out. I want some ****ing wins in the back end, no more ifs/buts just kick more goals than the other team and win some god damn games you BUMS

I mean, with the state our mid and forward lines are in, we're either the laziest, most downhill skiing, most content-in-their-own-shitness team to ever exist, or we meet that unverified Einstein definition of insanity.

Don't see how we win anything except a few Frequent Flyer Points and a nice early trip to Mykonos.
