:rolleyes: without the risk of repeating myself, i am not sure of the economics in transporting fuel across perth, but i would expect a servo in scarborough to sell at a different price to northbridge for i dont know what reason.

i just hope i have exposed the fact that there are ill informed morons out there who blame the guy at the console for the expensive prices (morons like rick's chick... she'd have to be under the thumb dont you reckon.. being referred to as someone's chick?)

Staying away from the little bitch fight between you two girls, unless jelly or mud is involved.

Scarborough & Northbridge are almost side by side so no reason why one pays more for there petrol than the other, I think you just have to accept you are wrong & that some managers of servos are willing to cut the price where others aren't.

It's actually called working your way up the corporate ladder as we get offered internal positions at the company, interstate and overseas every few days!

Good luck getting a job in the medical position what is the success rate 1%?

you got me redback... having only been to perth once, we stayed at northbridge and scarborough. and they are the only two suburbs i could recall.

and i know i am not wrong. it is not the manager of the station why decides, they are always asking BP, Caltex, Mobil, Shell... whoever for subsidies so they can lower their price.

enough of this thread. it started out how customers often walk into maccas, bakers, servos etc and get angry at the person at the counter, and now it has turned into an economics lesson

I work in a chain-store coffee shop, and have cost us a couple of times in spot-checks by head office for not being "cheerful enough" (try being bloody cheerful when the air conditioner is blowing HOT air on a 35degree day! :mad: ) and for not knowing a regular's name. If the person is willing to tell you their name in the first place, ok cool, but i'm not going to go "hey what's your name?" to everyone i recognise as a regular!

The thing that annoys me most is when people order a ton of drinks, and i enter them automatically as regular sized cos that's what my instructions are from those above me, and then they change them all to smalls and larges which means i have to clear entire orders and redo them and they get ****ty at me for not being able to magically make the registers do absolutely everything instantaneously. or worse, people come in, order beans to take home and i ask what they want it ground for (e.g. plunger or percolator or whatever) and they go "the kettle" and refuse to understand that we don't sell INSTANT coffee, even after i explain it to them repeatedly. :rolleyes: But then you get the nice ones who address you by name and do talk to you and are really friendly and it makes it all better.

The one good thing i did get told in my training was that "smiles are free - above all else, give one of those to every customer" - it takes nothing to smile at them and at least greet them nicely, even if we are only getting paid teensy amounts to do it - at least we have jobs in the first place!

ahem... 97% actually... but then again i guess you'd know :rolleyes: i dont expect youd read the papers much and realise the massive shortage of doctors and nurses this country has, virtually every graduate will get a place if they want.

yeah, a lot of regulars like to be noticed, but some dont... like the person who started this thread. i just say hi and let them decide if they want to be friendly and have a chat or leave it at that

I read the papers everyday and go to the library but so what so do a lot of fools who have no people skills and cant talk english.

As for knowing the figure thats not my industry remember whereas petrol stations well you know if i worked there i'd be aware of my competitors prices!

do you also think the girl at the checkout in woolies can give you a discount on a can of tomatoes cos franklins is cheaper??

when will you learn that it is not these people you should be directing your anger towards. most of them are just working really hard and long to earn some money, and they get treated like crap by people who dont know any better

No which brings me back to the very initial point that actually had something to do with the thread title...the customers have a right to be antsy if you are 10 cents higher than the bloke across the road. Of course if they were wiser they would fill up on Wednesdays like i do when it is 10 cents down at every station!

whoa calm down... i didnt even see this post.

and why do they have a right to be angry?? of course they dont. i dont get angry with woolies staff coz their prices are too expensive... coz the people behind the checkout cant help it. they shouldnt come in and blame someone who has no control over the matter. one has to ask why they arent filling up across the road if it is so much cheaper anyway

Well I waste my weekends away in a Pharmacy, where to start off with, 99% of my customers are either druggies, oldies, hypochondriacs, feeling sick, or just plain 100% mental. What they don't know though is that I have access to all their files and medical history... Plus the comments added... pity I can't use it really

About 90% of these people, also have absolutely no idea about the laws involved, nor what products they can and can't have (both medically and legally). and usually assume that because my badge doesn't yet say 'pharmacist', I'm there purely to sell lipsticks, and make up whatever else I tell them. Ive been at uni for years, and I've actually picked up a fair bit, but still feel free to call me 'love', then talk straight over my head to the boss, who will usually repeat what I just said. ;) Oh, and no-one wants to pay for their medications. Apparently we should just give them out for free, and it's all my fault that we don't :)

And that's just the start :p We also have to meet each customer within one minute, greet them & farewell them by inviting them to come back to the store. We are supposed to make polite conversation while they're waiting, but I usually get out of that bit. Customers usually respond either by letting you know they think it none of your business, or you hear their entire life story, warts (and the like :eek: ), animals, grandchildren, medical history and all. *shudders*

Ahhhh... just gotta love customer service :p

Speaking of legal issues Eagle_Fan, i know there are certain medications/tablets you cannot buy without ID due to the fact that they can be used in the mass production of drugs like speed and esctacy in backyard sheds. Know anything on this?

Yeah, they have to be labelled. Just hand of your licence and it's no big deal. (Only the straight pseudoephedrine ones by the way). There's other over the counter stuff that needs labelling, but that's for other reasons.

Is that what you wanted to know? Or how to convert them to speed? :confused:

If the customer is going to complain about the price why dont they just go across the road where it is cheaper??? Makes sense doesnt it!!!

I work in a Mercedes-Benz dealership on Saturdays as a part time job because I’m at uni 5 days a week. You don’t understand the crap I get from customers. Sometimes they walk in, look at me in disgust, and boom, “I WANT TO SEE A SALESPERSON”. I smile, “unfortunately all the sales staff are unavailable at the moment, would you like a coffee or tea while you’re wai……” exasperated sigh, “No, I don’t want a coffee, I want to see a sales person. Why don’t I just go to another dealership if you can’t supply me with what I need?” Now at this point, I feel like screaming, “GO TO ANOTHER F**ING DEALERSHIP, DO I GIVE A FLYING S***?!” But instead, I’ve been told to… smile. “I’m extremely sorry for the inconvenience, as soon as someone’s free I’ll get them to give you a hand”.
Most of the time, the snobby Merc customers come in and look down at me because I’m simply the lowly receptionist, it’s funny how their tune changes when I tell them I’m studying law. Snobs.
Another time I got a call telling me that there was a mistake in the Mercedes Benz ad in the Age. I explained to the man very kindly that I didn’t have anything to do with the Age advertisement, to which he scoffed, “You’re the receptionist – that’s what you do”. Again, I said, “I’m sorry Sir, but that really has nothing to do with me” to which he replied, “You’d think that you could at least get the spelling right for Gods sake”. ARRRRGGGH
Rant over :)

LOL. It's funny that even when something has absolutely nothing to do with you, people still seem to think you're the reason it is the way it is, and give you the death stare like you're the spawn of Satan.

You learn a value life lesson working in retail, one reason why I believe everyone should be made to work in retail at one stage in life (bit like national service but in supermarkets which sometimes seems just as bad as any war zone! ;)).

85% of people are arseholes (the other 15% are decent people who occasionally have bad days ;)). The skills you develop in handling arseholes whilst working in retail prepares you well for a job in any workplace. Learning to placate a maggot (disgruntled customer) by being friendly and understanding whilst deep down wishing you could uppercut them, holds you in good stead for any challenging circumstance you may encounter in the future.

Having said that if I had my time again, they be plenty of times I wish I said my mind to customers instead of being understanding and reassuring!

Yep and thats what i do however some people may be in a hurry and unable to get over the other side of the road in the traffic where it is cheaper.


Some people here sound scared of customers. When someone on the phone argues with me i say thats our policy i dont make the rules heres the supervisors number! Simple and then i usually get "oh i know sweety"
