Mate, this is what happens in other sports (i.e. players are stood down while under this investigation) and there isn't a defamation lawsuit going on there AFAIK.Nice little court case against the AFL very easily then for defamation against the AFL if they are found not guilty

It is extremely common for media outlets to not be able to name rape suspects for legal reasons, especially high profile ones. Don't forget, for ages Bruce Lehrmann was being referred to as "high profile Toowoomba man" due to the concurrent legal cases running against him.Why do people buy into the lie that HUN cannot name the player? Its simply not true. They are not naming him cos the AFL asked them not too. Thats it
Especially when the personm has kinda been named to the point people are going to assume the situation here.Mate, this is what happens in other sports (i.e. players are stood down while under this investigation) and there isn't a defamation lawsuit going on there AFAIK.
You cannot have someone on an active rape charge playing AFL, it's pretty much unthinkable and the crowd reaction would make Adam Goodes look like the world's most popular man.
Just because people assume it's one particular person, doesn't mean it is that person.Especially when the personm has kinda been named to the point people are going to assume the situation here.
Its why not naming him is just so stupid
Of course but its what will happen though.Just because people assume it's one particular person, doesn't mean it is that person.
Anyway, there is a long-established legal precedent of not naming the accused publicly, and it's done with good reason as elaborated on by others throughout this thread.Of course but its what will happen though.
Really serious, regardless of the time gone from when it happened.Alleged rape. Pretty serious allegation.

Sure, but the heavy hint from the article is that it is one of our players.I don't live in Geelong genius.

I don't think that Milne would play now. Two decades ago - might as well have been a lifetime ago.Andrew Lovett was sacked when he was charged with rape, was later acquitted. Steven Milne played when charged with rape and was booed and later plead guilty to a lesser charge. Precedent for both
Nah need to stand whoever it is down. Can't have fans cheering on a person with such serious charges playing on the playing field.
Being stood down while charged with a criminal offence is pretty standard across most workplaces, especially in well-paid roles. Then gets found not guilty and sues for lost of earnings and reputational damage.
Carey, Milne, O'Loughlin, Heuskes, P Burgoyne. There is a long list of players whose careers would have been significantly shorter if they'd been drafted in the 2020sI don't think that Milne would play now. Two decades ago - might as well have been a lifetime ago.

If the name being thrown about on FB over the weekend has any credibility then the 'Geelong FC' connection is a red herring.Sure, but the heavy hint from the article is that it is one of our players.
2 of your playersSure, but the heavy hint from the article is that it is one of our players.
Not if there is a suppression order they can't.Why do people buy into the lie that HUN cannot name the player? Its simply not true. They are not naming him cos the AFL asked them not too. Thats it
No, one AFL player and one non player2 of your players
