The player who was named in October 2024 as being questioned was Tanner Bruhn (Questioned about witnessing an assault, according to media reports). A second man was questioned, but the report doesn't name him. It will disappoint Cats fans if it involves any of our players. But whoever it is, if they have done it, then they deserve what's coming to them.

Sounds like it is either a Geelong player or a player who was drafted from Geelong and has family in Geelong.

If they are guilty, whoever they are, I hope they get a long prison sentence.

I'd assume if it's a current AFL player who plays seniors &/or VFL, then because he's been charged he wouldn't be playing in any immediate future games for their club including practice games. So games in coming days will be a interesting look, of course the club can use injury to the player in question as a cover-up, so let's wait a see.

I imagine the player in question will continue playing. He’s been charged but not convicted and we still run on an innocent until proven guilty basis. This won’t be sorted out in the courts for a very long time.

Of course if is found guilty then he deserves the full punishment of the law.

Horrible situation for the women involved. Interested to see how the AFL tackles this. Pickett for us was arrested o believe and charged but he was allowed to continue to play and was afforded the presumption of innocence.

Thomas from North on the other hand was stood down while an investigation happened.

I think you can presume innocence until proven guilty however I don't think that entitles someone necessarily to total anonymity. The AFL will want to keep this one quiet 100%, not sure if it's the right way to go or if it's the way they would go to protect the brand.

The article listing Geelong really kind of basically says without saying "Hey, we can't tell you which team but you can work it out." Messy stuff for sure.

Yeah I think the players should and likely will be stood down. That doesn’t mean they’re guilty but the club or clubs involved have an image to uphold.

If there’s even a remote possibility that there’s a chance your player is going to be found guilty of these charges and they’re in that process, they simply can’t be playing. I understand the Pickett example but I think it’s not unreasonable to allow a process for theft to play out and still be allowed to play.

This is alleged rape and sexual assault, it’s a completely different level of seriousness.

There’s no way at all you can play under these charges.

If I run a high-profile company there is no way on earth I’m having somebody out there representing me while charged with this.

Stood down and you’re not coming to work. Full pay and professional support provided, but there’s no way you’re gonna be out there representing the company.

Just the way it is. The club is bigger than any individual.

Noah Balta has already been given a ban while charged, bit not convicted.

A fight outside a Ski Club is a significantly less charge than a rape allegation.

The accused shouldnt be playing while the investigation is under way

Speculation about names doesn't help any court case

Except the headline was probably too kind, amongst similar legal systems it's more likely Victoria is the suppression capital of the world.

It has already been widely reported a certain Geelong player was being questioned by police in relation to serious sexual assault last year.

Most people are going to join dots and assume it is him that has now been charged.

It's therefore actually grossly unfair to him if it is someone else that has been charged but that information isn't made public.

The same as if some other Geelong player on the eve of the season suddenly gets a LTI or goes on extended leave for 'personal reasons', it may be completely unrelated to these charges but because the name of the actual player charged is suppressed, suspicion will arise.

The legal system in the state of Victoria is a mess

I’d rather not know who the player(s) is. If it is a high profile player, it will only prejudice a verdict of whether or not they are guilty or not guilty, based on public perception. The people involved should be temporarily stood down, until an investigation goes to trial. Hate this kind of publicity, how ever if they are guilty of the serious crime, then they deserve a harsh penalty, rather than a slap on the wrist. The alleged victims should also be compensated for the trauma they endured.
