I was looking through the Community newspaper, and I read that when Coburg and Carlton play on June 9, they will play for the Sydney road cup. Coburg already play for the Moreland/Moonee valley cup against Essendon, and I think they play for a cup against the Northern bullants. In the AFL their seems to be a cup for a winning side every week.

Are their cups presented in the SANFL, WAFL, QSFL or any other league? And is it really necessary to have cups presented in games other than the grand final?

In the SANFL competition, when the Woodville-West Torrens Eagles and the Sturt Double Blues play, there is now a trophy called the R.O Shearman Trophy.

And when the Norwood Redlegs play the Port Adelaide Magpies, there is the Williams-Gallagher Trophy up for grabs as well as some cash from a local house building business.

Don't know whether there are any more, although Centrals and North Adelaide could play for a cup because they are both northern Adelaide teams.

Glenelg & South compete for the Peter Carey - Peter Darley cup. This is decided by one minor round match each year; though I don't know how they work out which match - perhaps it is the home match of the current cup holder.

Eagles & North have competed for a cup which was coined in the memory of some bloke from Clipsal who had something to do with both clubs. I don't remember the name of the guy, nor do I remember if the cup is still contested.

I had a vague idea that Sturt and West competed for a cup, but I am not at all sure. Perhaps one of the Sturt followers can confirm/deny this.
