The Western Bulldogs will have exclusive access to a brand new swimming complex and some of Australia’s leading sports science and exercise testing facilities as part of a formal partnership that was announced today with Victoria University.
Beginning at the end of April, the Western Bulldogs will use the recently completed $8million Victoria University swimming pool and gymnasium complex for their weekly recovery programs.
The players will be able to utilise all the new facilities of the new Sports complex, which has been built at Victoria University’s Footscray Park campus.
The Western Bulldogs will also have use of the University’s state-of-the-art physiology labs, which include VO2 Max and blood lactate testing facilities, as well as a heat chamber for climate preparedness.
Campbell Rose, the Western Bulldogs chief executive, described the new partnership as an example of how the Western Bulldogs are building relationships with other icons of the west.
“Establishing and developing strong community links is a key part of the revival and re-positioning of the Western Bulldogs,” said Rose
“Victoria University has some of the best sports science and exercise testing facilities in the country and the Western Bulldogs are very fortunate that it is in our own backyard,” said Rose.
“Victoria University also has some of the most knowledgeable and respected academics in the field of sports science which are now resources that our players and coaching staff will be able to tap into,” said Rose.
“Whether it be finding out more about injury prevention, assisting us with injury rehabilitation, or any other sort of fitness testing, the Western Bulldogs now have exclusive access to a brand new facility with some of the best people to advise us,” said Rose.
“There aren’t too many AFL clubs that have these sort of resources so readily available to them, but thanks to Victoria University, the Western Bulldogs now do,” said Rose.
Victoria University Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Director of TAFE, Mr Richard Carter said the University was extremely pleased and excited to formally link with the Western Bulldogs through this corporate partnership.
“With both Victoria University and the Western Bulldogs having a major presence in the West, it is a natural progression to create a formal partnership with strong benefits for both organisations.”
“Importantly, a number of Western Bulldogs players are already studying at our University, and we expect others to follow,” said Carter.
“We welcome this new relationship which presents a fantastic opportunity in sports training, injury recovery and sports science research for the University and for the Bulldog players.”
