Really feel for Paul. Has been splendid this year.

Steve Johnson played a good game.

Considering all the injuries (and suspension Waitey) our backline has stood up really well so far.

The Bower Power will be back.

Crap ... He was too courageous for his own good Bower...

Feeling gutted for him, he was really having a standout season ...

It's hard to see if we have any ready made replacements in the Ants, although Waite is back next week ..

This is unbelievable. We were told we had the worst backline in the AFL over the offseason. We had hopes of Walker having his best ever season - injured. Bannister plays the most consistent footy of his career - injured. Thornton revelling in the extra freedom of not having the number one forward to mind - Injured. Jamison a revelation at fullback - injured. Bower in better form than all of them - injured. And Waitey goes and does something stupid and gets suspended.

Jamo and Bower were the main reasons for our defence being so attacking and solid and we have neither now.

Thank god Carlos has returned to form.

Jamison, Thornton, Waite, Walker, Bower, Bannister, Setanta - formwise, that looks like a decent back half. In fact we could take Waite to CHF and add Browne or Scotland to add balance.

We lose Waite, get Thornton back. Lose Bower and get Waite and hopefully Bannister back but really, it is one step forward, two steps back with our defence at present.

Setanta will get Tredrea next week and Bannister will tag someone usually but may be needed back.

Browne O'hAilpin Bannister
Thornton Waite Scotland

LOL IF Bannister plays next week, play him on Chad Cornes, he always kills him, the score was 2-0 last year :D :D

Yeah and their opponent goes where??

Into the forward fifty for an uncontested mark.

Would you rather the situation in the world game where someone is injured so the opposing team kicks it out of bounds...

Were you at the game or were you watching it on TV? There were plenty of players around to take the mark instead of Bower and their opponent wouldn't have been alone because the forward 50 was pretty congested.

Even commentators on the Sunday Footy Show just said the same thing.

If there were plenty of players around to take the mark, where were they to tackle him once he played on?
From memory it was a pretty quick play on once he had the ball in his hand.

Johnson actually stood there for about 15 seconds before he played on and ran around Bower.

It looked like a wrist but AFL website says AC joint. Hrrrrm....
When I saw it I thought AC joint.

Slams the point of the shoulder into the ground during the tackle. A wrist he could have pulled up and generally people clutch it to their chest.

He couldn't raise that arm from his side at all, not even to signal the trainers or team mates.

A-C joints heal well, but if there is major joint disruption he could miss 4-6 weeks.
Complete disruption of the joint could even be 8-10. :(

Enter Mark Austin. Time to get some games into the kids.:thumbsu:

Bannister will play next week, simply because he has too.

He might play on Ebert if he doesn't tag Chad.

Agreed with BB, Mark Austin, your time is now.

Isn't Ebert injured?

My god, and the worse thing is, that stupid handbag player who caused poor Bow Wow's injury, didn't even give away a free kick..

Sorry CP...the only person who caused Bower's injury was Bower. He was on one of his speculative runs out of HBF and brought himself undone in a big way.

Not trying to be hard on the guy, he has been incredible this year, but he put himself in a position he should not have been in.

Agreed, lack of awareness/vision. But will hopefully learn from that when he reflects for the next month or more and will continue developing at a rate of knots.

Terrible news, has been great this year. But saw the 'play on' coming from a mile away, cant believe it took Johnson so long to take off and given the amount of time, we couldn't get organised enough to cover. On another note I'm surprised his opponents don't play on more often, Bower has a habit when standing the mark of turning his back on the player, dropping his head and kicking the turf to mark the spot.

Fair point - but when you are 40-odd points down against the top side, I would much rather see Paul Bower take the game on and take a risk than just 'freeze in the headlights' like the rest of the side did.

His aggressive "taking the game on" style turned the game for us vs WCE.

Yes, it would be nice for him to have some awareness, but it seemed to be running through the team Sat night.

When Murph gets run down twice from behind you know we are in trouble mentally.

That said, it was a blatant push in the back, as were a number of tackle on Sat night, and maybe had the umps paid some early the tackle would have been quite different.

Dr. Bluebear, any idea how long an injured AC joint takes to get over?

i can answer that!!

depending on the severity, usually an average recovery is about 3 weeks!!!

though i will await eagerley for BB to shoot me down!! :D

Key phrase right there.

An "average" AC joint is sore, but the player can still raise his arm overhead.

Bower couldn't move it at all. Not always an indicator of severity, but it didn't look good.

Grade 1 - miss 1 week depending on soreness, plays with it taped.
Gd 4 - complete rupture, may require surgery, 10-12 weeks a possibility.

I know its no help at all, but AC joints are like that.......they can vary greatly and initial pain isn't always a good indication.
