The new ticket exchange rule seems to work fairly well.

However, we still have many people not showing up each week.

While i realise that sometimes you cannot make a game due to unforseen cicrumstances (death in the family), i believe there should be a cap on how many games you can miss during a season.

For example, i beleive that someone could miss up to 2 games because of a personal injury sustained on the day, or a death in the family. However, to miss 3 games on 3 seperate weekends is just not on. There are fans on the waiting list and on game day that cant get in because some people are selfish and just not going - whether it be because of the weather forecast, or other events (eg wedding or a dinner).

So i put it to the fans, that if a Season ticket holder misses 3 games without taking advantage of the Ticket Exchange program, they should not be able to have their membership renewed the following year.

This allows for 2 games with unforseeable circumstances - where you break a leg playing footy that day before the game, or you are from the country and your car breaks down on the way there, or someone in your family passes away.

If you are not in adelaide for games, whether it be for just 1 week or for 5 weeks - you can still ticket exchange and still have 2 games grace.


Other options include
  • ticket exchanging to bass, where they can on sell tickets but refunding the member some of the ticket price
  • Having a "fairweather membership". Charge $50 for the membership, and Have 1000 members. Keep aside 1000 tickets for each game. "Fairweather" Members come to the game an hour and a half early on game day and buy the ticket at Normal price. All tickets of these 1000 that havent been sold 3/4 of an hour before the game starts, go onsale to the public at the gate.
As we saw this week, there are many people that will miss out going this week. Some of these fans will be my freidns which really dissapoints me. We really do need to fix this.

*Please note that i myself am a current ticket holder and are in no way trying to cause a program that will remove many supporters so that i can become a member in the future.
 
not going to happen.. would cause a major uproar, why would the club want to upset its paid-up members who have probably had their tickets for 10+ years.. what if someone goes oberseas for a month? would be clear disrespect by the AFC to its most important supporters, we would end up with less members than port who have all the time in the world for members regardless if they turn up or not

If they are away for certain matches and they know they will be, they can ticket exchange.

As I understand it atm, you can email your details to a friend only, and they can printout a ticket etc etc.

What about an exchange system where you pay? Atm people can only really exchange with friends. Say you can't go, instead of sending your ticket to a friend why send your membership number to Bass, then they can re-sell your seat?

Will Never happen

I beleive a stadium (Dome) should be built in the CBD. Victoria Park maybe. Make it multipurpose so have United play there in Summer too. The Marg (new Hospital) site would of been perfect. It would be great on weekends for the city as you would get minumum 20,000 people hanging around in pubs cafes and restaurants. The current Footy Park site could be sold for housing.

But this will never happen in Adelaide. Adelaide is too conservative. Also the mob at Alberton can not even sell out Footy Park so it would be argued that it is not economically viable. But I would argue that bringing life to the city would outweigh this.

I posted this in the other thread. Bass is shit, get rid of them, use a system like Viagogo.
 
My idea is that when you renew your membership each season you nominate which of the 11 games you want to go to.

- For example, I know I won't be able to go to any Saturday afternoon games as a play amateur league footy.
- Some people from the country would know that they're not going to go to any night games. Likewise some of the oldies.
- You would know if you are going OS at any time of the season.
- You would know if you're a fair weather supporter who really only wants to see the Showdown and the games against Collingwood, West Coast and Essendon.
- You would know if you worked on Sundays.
- Etc etc.

When you paid for your membership you would pay a partially reduced amount depending on how many games you were missing. The club could then sell the tickets you give up at full price and ching ching ching cash in. Everybody wins.

Obviously there will still be the unavoidable times during a season where it's 12.00 Sunday and you need to head off to the game but you can't remember where you left your car or even how you ended up with no shoes and your pants on back to front but there's not much you can do about that. No system is perfect.

I was going to add something to my post earlier, but didnt get around to it. Another idea, is along the same lines. I might cause a little more hassle (especially for the oldies) but a system where we reduce the premium for the season ticket, by say $55. And 3 weeks before the game, we have to book our ticket and pay a $5 booking fee. This would work similar to how the reserved seat function works for some games in Melbourne. 2 weeks before the game this would finish, and all the tickets that weren't bought are added to the members guest pass allocation. This always sells out, so a larger number to the pool will increase the numbers of members in the stadium. Those that arent snapped up can go onto general sale.

The last theory I had was to increase membership to AAMI Stadium by about 4,000. This would be a non-Category 1 fixture, Port would get it, as would Adelaide (obviously the most important part of it). Although games may be oversold, we all know that not everybody turns up, and worst case scenario we have a lot of people standing on the lower level, not that that is a huge problem anyway. This we we get an automatic 3,000 people boost to every game.
 
I think they could afford to reduce the members enclosure by 2,000-3,000 at least. A lot of Port Cat 1 members do not go to Crows matches and are part of the reason for our crowd being down when the match is " sold out". It should be very easy for the SANFL to know exactly how many SANFL members attend the matches and what a safe reduction in the members enclosure would be.

The extra 3,000 seats could then be part of the "daily sales" whilst the present "daily sales" could be taken by people off the waiting list. Then for the Showdown, they could just move the fences to make the member's enclosure a little larger for that day only.

I did actually suggest this idea to the SANFL a few years ago but the reply I got basically said there was no problem.

Don't mind that idea kimirocks. When you're buying your membership you're essentially purchasing the 'first rights' to buy tickets for each of our home games. You'd need to actually confirm that you want to take up that right and your account would automatically be debited with the ticket(s) emailed to you to print out. Works for me!

I guess the problem with all our ideas is that the club would never go from the guaranteed income fully-paid up season ticket holders provide to relying on week-to-week sales which can be affected by weather, the form of the team, the drawing power of the opposition, the timing of the match etc.

Quite like Scott's idea about reducing the member's area. I know with the last sold out Ashes test match at Adelaide Oval if all the member's had turned up there wouldn't have been room for them. The SACA thought 'bugger it, if they all turn up they'll just have to stand closer together.' Trim a couple of bays at each end and take out the back two rows of the concourse to provide more standing room. Simple.
 
Membership idea- With every new membership give the supporter a cow. So whenever a free is paid against the Crows, one quick slap of the arse and a deep 'MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO' (sounds like boo) is produced.

This would have also been very effective when Roo was in his prime. Saves the vocal cords for post-match talk.

how about the sanfl just makes the aami membership area smaller, they lose probably close to 2000 seats because of no shows, thats 2000 that you could sell general admission?

Mmmmmm lets say this situation

If we had the perfect membership system where everyone turned their tickets or w/e, what crowds do you rekon we'll get?

Do these crowds warrant the building of a new stadium?

I dont think so. Get rid of Cat 1 first and have it 'Full AFC Membership' or ''Full Port Adelaide Membership'' and pay a slight premium for extra shows at Football Park

This would then give the SANFL an indication of who attends and what extra general tickets they can utilise
