Has impressed in almost all of his 15 odd games he's played. I'm still trying to work out why he is considered a bad kick, because I can't really remember him making a bad turnover in any of his games yet. If anything he is a very accurate kick. Keep it up Howat, awesome effort for such a small amount of games :thumbsu:

Yep great game 20 possessions while his opponent had 28 and was instrumental in at least 3 of the Saints last quarter goals.

Over the 20-30m to other players miles in the clear which constitute most of his possessions.

Good athlete, not much else. He's nowhere near damaging enough to get excited about - can't tag, hurts nobody floating around on his own and taking the short option 95% of the time.

75% of Hyde...dime a dozen.

on the money once again RT

other than getting ripped a new arseh*le by a 36 yr old howat was good :o

well gee, how many times has harvey got 30+ possessions? Would it be about on 300 occasions? I'm sure all of his opponents have been shit as you say

he has played about 15 games. He has shown more than Tambling did in his first 15 games. There has been no evidence that he can't kick, can't tag etc. Can't expect much in only 15 odd games. Have you guys been paid to speak crap?

Tambling will be three times the player Howat is when he's the same age - he's already shown that and it's why he was a top draft pick.

Tambling was 18 with a light frame when he debuted.

Howat is 22, still lightly framed, one-paced, refuses to take the game on, one-dimensional, not a player who can 'think' his way into a game (i.e. dangerous positioning while he floats around pretending he has no opponent) and will be perpetually average at best.

He may have a small chance to be the last listed this year, but I highly doubt it - and he's too old to rookie again. Jackson and King have well and truly gone past him, Edwards, Casserley, Collins and probably Connors (if he gets his head right) are all quite rightly rated higher...throw Coughlan back in and add another few running draftees...there's no spot for him.

I like the guy he has played quite well from what I have seen and so what if he is 22 its not like he is ready for the nursing home yet. Also saying that there are others on the list that will be better than him you cant guarantee that we have all seen so called future stars go down the drain and finally about last nights game it was Robert Harvey for godsake!! if it was some untested or 1st year midfilder I'd be a bit pissed too but come on its Robert Harvey he has torn up better players worse than he did Howat I just think it would be dumb to let the guy go I reckon he has a good future in the game whether its with us or another club

howat played well and was creative with the ball, he shown improvement. tambling hasnt shown much, even james brayshaw takes the mickey out of him on the footy show.

yeah, too many fools in here expect players to look like champions after 20 games lol

Just like too many fools give kids pass marks when they refuse to do one of the basics of footy and that is man up when you or your team does not have the ball. Howat is supposed to be one of if not the fittest player at Richmond in terms of endurance and yet got shown that being able to run all day is not going to cut it in the AFL. Harvey knew where and when to run and showed Howat what he needs to be able to do. Statistically Howat had a decent night, realistically he was poor and played as a front runner.

Think back to the last quarter when Richo got caught in the pocket holding the ball, who was it that laid the tackle? Harvey not bad for a 36 year old. When the chips were down and our backline needed a bit of help where was Howat, sitting out wide on a HBF waiting for the switch out of the backline and the easy possession. That is the difference between a player that does the team things and one that is a downhill skier.

If you want to be accepting of sub standard efforts that will see this club go nowhere that is your right, on the other hand I want to see this club move forward and it wont happen when we are carrying more players than those that are performing.

I thought it was Dal Santo who got Richo...

In any case, Howat had a good second quarter. He had to perform last night after his shocker last week. Otherwise I didn't see him doing much. Harvey was on a mission though, Superman wouldn't have stopped him last night...

But still, Howat hasn't shown enough to be retained next year IMO.

That was the second one, the first one was in the forward pocket, Dal Santo got Richo about 25m out when Richo took too long to process what was going on.

good call RT

in terms of output i thought that was clearly howats best game of the season, but when you stack it against his direct opponent in Harvey, well he got beaten. Harvey killed us and gave gherig 3 or 4 laceout passes in the final quarter when he was running through a vacant paddock

Harvey always carves us up so I wouldn't hold that against him. But Howat just seems to lack much a a hurt factor. Even when he picks up possessions he doesn't seem to make much of an impact.

dime a dozen.
Stop accepting mediocrity MT, players like Howat won't get us anywhere but 9th.
We have had players of he's calibre for the last 20 years and it has gotten us nowhere.
FFS wake up you fool

Is that right? Well pity for you I'm 100% confident he'll be signed up for the next 2 seasons.

Even when the stats sheet is kind to Howat, he still has no real impact on the game. Would be lucky to get on another AFL list imo.

You know if we do that we will have to either give King the chop or sacrifice draft picks don't you?
That's why he will be gawn next year, he has show a bit, but not enough

yeah just compare someone who has played 300 games to someone who has played less then 20 you moron :thumbsu:

doesnt hurt opposition and slows the game up too much. unlikely to be signed back on

what you talking about? What does he have to do for you to rate him? Kick 5 goals? He has done everything you could ask for in just 15 odd games and Wallace will sign him up. He said this in an article

"Foley, along with young ruckman Adam Pattison, Daniel Jackson, Jake King, Will Thursfield, Shane Edwards and Cameron Howat represent the future for the Richmond Football Club."

Try and compare the impact they had on the game last night not the amount of games that they have played in their careers. All this praise about how well Howat went yet he didn't hurt the Saints which is why they weren't worried about him getting the ball out on the HBF/wing on his own. In other words Lyon didn't drag Harvey despite Howat getting touches, that is the point you seem to be missing. In the review that they do of the game this week do you think Wallace is going to tell Howat that he had a good game or do you think he might just tell him that he hopes he has learnt from the impact Harvey had on the game when it was there to be grabbed. Like the others who are praising him try looking at what really happened and not just opening up the paper or the AFL site and reading how many stats a guy has in a game.

get a damaging posession.
u might not know this but this guy is 22 or 23.
at that age he should have better vision and not just get cheap kicks out on the wing.
brenden godard, mcintosh, winderlich - these are players that would have been drafted his year and have much more impact on a game
obviously alot of people share these views and u r in the minority
