Been playing footy? Yeah. With the socks? Nah with a football.

That was my first intro to the coodabeens. Love em.

Round 17, 1990, the Dogs beat Collingwood by three points after a young Steve Kolynuik, too far out to score with a set shot and seconds left on the clock, runs around the man on the mark (Daicos) and bombs a goal on the siren. Digger rings up the Coodabeens to complain about the umpiring......Tony says "whats wrong" and Digger says....."He pulled a knife on him Tony....Kolynuik had a knife.....everybody saw it....the umpire crucified us!!!!"

Round 8 1991....The Mothers Day Massacre....beaten by Richmond by ten goals - Jeff Hoog kicked ten... Digger not happy again....this time blaming the AFL for sceduling the game on Mothers Day......Tony says "whats wrong with the scheduling?"....Digger says..."Millane couldnt play".....Tony says "but he was injured"......."No he wasnt Tony, he coulndt play because he LOVES HIS MUM!!!. He loves his mum Tony.....they crucified us!!!!!

Why would we 'hide' him?

I doubt the club would pressure someone to move back across the country.

If he's going back for his own or family reasons then good luck to him.

There is no doubt playing WAFL is a better standard of footy but some handy players have come out of QLD as well.

Hope it turns out well.

Why would we 'hide' him?

To make sure no other club "bids" for him in the father-son process. If we have him pencilled in we obviously want to use our last pick on him rather than our first.

Put him in Qld in a lesser comp and its going to be harder for clubs to put a value on him.

Not saying we're hiding him but that might be a reason why we would.

I met Craig when i was 16.

He was our 'inspirational' figure head our Grand Final week when we played Mt. Gravatt.. Nice guy from what I recall, and at the time he was in some role with the lions.

Needless to say, we got pumped by 51 points after our All-Australian CHF was sent off in the first quarter for umpire abuse... hahahaha

Did Craig Starcevich manage to reach 100 games at Collingwood?

I don't think he was at the club for more than 5 seasons.

He played 124 games, kicking 162 goals for Collingwood before moving to the Brisbane Bears in 1994.

I'm not sure I'd agree with that assessment. From my memory Starcevich had pretty good talent levels but mostly tended not to perform in big games with one or two notable exceptions. Even if you look at his GF performance from 1990 you'll note that he was what was called in those days an "outside receiver". If it wasn't for the hard work of blokes like Brown, Shaw, Millane, Francis and Scotty Russell I doubt he'd have got near it. Still, you can't say he was a total spud when he was good enough to make that side ahead of others but I just wasn't a big fan.

the point i make is that in those days, the tall guys were still relatively slow & lumbering, selected for their strength & marking, as opposed to running & delivery. this is what starc bought to the club. he attracted a tall defender to go with him, but left that defender for dead to play link man on the wing (outside receiver). if a speedier player went to him, that guy was likely undersized, so starc won again.

he was a unique player in a time where players were tall & slow OR small & fast. just hated the wet conditions. would have loved the 14 years of drought we just endured.

He was their answer to David Buttifant, player conditioning and so forth. Then went to WA U18's as their elite performance manager.

Timmy was my favourite character. How many uncles did he have? :D

Also used to love Cliff from Clematis and Guru Bob.

I reckon 90% of BF users have no idea who TFT was.

I loved Digger, he was a sensational character. Loved that line about Mother's Day when he's going "meanwhile, Stoneham and Hocking are BUSTING THEIR COLLARBONES!!!"

Starca had a huge tank and played very much like Cloke does now but not as good at contested marking, he was pretty accurate in front of goal though and was the Norm Smith medalist before Daniher cowardly knocked him out from behind.

Would need to improve a great deal to get drafted.

Just dont see the talent there for him to make the wa academy squad.

The best he could hope for was a game in the under 18 trial game, but even then would be getting the game on his old man's name.

His kicking needs alot of work.

Moving to queensland is a smart move guaranteed a game with them.

So you are saying he is a Massive Project. IF the pies draft him it would be our last pick with the Father&Son Pick

Yea but I would rather pick him as a rookie pick for you guys, then you have time to let him develop, put him on the main list and he will be straight away under pressure to stay on the list.
