I couldn't give a fig about the NAB cup.

Rnd 1 and the whole Home and away season is far more important, and man/injury list management is crucial at this time of the year.

I must say the figs this season have been awesome. As they come or as a desert with a liqueur sauce - fantastic

As for the NAB - great to watch footy again especially when the Pies get flogged but the result is not important. Playing time to get the rust off and no injuries.

Stevens said the hit-out against his former club was a good opportunity for the Blues to put the finishing touches on their new game plan.

“We’ve got five or six who aren’t playing tomorrow night but we’re trying to get our best side out there because we need to play together, learn the new game plan and make sure we put things in place for round one,” Stevens said.

“I think there will be a few differences in the game plan. We’re obviously still trying things and that is what these next four weeks are about.”
Yes definitely wasting a year trying to get ready for round 1 by playing as many of our best 22 as possible.

So you think the best way to develop our kids is to send them to Port and let them get smacked............interesting.

Blackwell.......well Armfield has been named ahead of him, so you'd start to think his days are numbered.......but fair point.

Hartlett and Benjamin injured.

Edwardsa and Ellard are named.

Browne? Not sure he has done enough.

Why each year do we here the "Sink or swim" approach for every player?
Not all players are ready straight away.

In the squad I see Austin, Bower, Kreuzer, Gibbs, Edwards, Jackson, Jamison, Ellard, Grigg, Hampson, Armfield and Pfieffer.

Looks pretty inexperienced to me.

Why take ALL the senior support away?

Secondly, we have a new coach with a new game plan.......surely the senior players as much as anyone need to learn to apply it for the season proper.
MEH ..we are done ...I'm not gonna even bother watching it ..it..another season down the drain :o :o

I don't see this thread as pointless, as we beat Pot Adelaide without half a dozen of their stars and Tredrea and Bogen were rested after the first half.

Stevo needs a run, but we could rest Scotland, Fev, Waitey and thats about it.

Houla should never be rested as he's never over-used.

Be mindful that Setanta, Walker and Judd are being rested.

Shit thread.

ONE STAR.

I believe we'll be playing the loser of the Sydney-Hawthorn game at MC Labour Park if we lose.

Should been a Lot better year :) we'll win alot more then we lose we'll clean sweep the nab Cup :)

good to see fev play alot of game time like wise with stevens as you would expect when he was captain

It's not as though we had to make petty excuses to play the big name players that we did.

Stevens - Coming back from injury, needs to get his on-field performance right for round one (as we say yesterday, he is far from top notch).
Fevola - Same boat as Stevens.
Scotland - Probably the only one I couldn't get a good enough reason for.
Houlihan - Must get him suited to his old-new position up forward again, exactly what the NAB Cup should be used for.
Carrazzo - You don't rest your B&F winner first week back, simple. You try and transfer any form left from the previous season into the current one as quick as possible and that's what we're attempting to do here.
Waite - Needs to fine tune his defensive skills and be ready come round one and as we saw yesterday, it payed off big time.

But he played most of the game in defense.

But he played most of the game in defense.
He played in the backline due to lack of defenders. Ratten said himself to me after training that he will initially be played as a forward:thumbsu:.

I didn't realize Ratten told you all his plans! What else did he tell you? Why did we lack defenders? If he wanted him to get used to playing in the forward line why move him? A good source told me to expect Houla to be played precisely as you say- wherever the team lacked players.

Guh, smart ass.

It's not too hard to just ask him and quite frankly, I couldn't care less if you don't beleive me.

Exactly. So since 02:
2002 GF - Port Adelaide (1st) def Richmond (14th)
2003 GF - Adelaide (finished 6th) df Collingwood (finished 2nd)
2004 GF - St Kilda ( finished 3rd) def Geelong (finished 4th)
2005 GF - Carlton (finished 11th) def WC (finished 2nd)
2006 GF - Geelong (finished 10th) def Adelaide (finished 2nd)
2007 GF - Carlton (finished 15th) def Brisbane (finshed 10th)

So thats 6 top 4 finishes from finalists from the last 6 years. So on average 1 finalist every year makes top 4.

That in no way indicates ging far in the NAB cups hurts your regular season
Carlton came last in 2005
11th in 2004
Richmond came 15th in 2002

So you're saying that anyone can head down to training and Ratten will be willing to answer any question they have about what his plans and tactics are? Not trying to be a smartarse. It just surprises me that he would tell his plans to just anyone. How do you know he played in the backline due to lack of defenders?

You could probably say the same for Scottie as you have for Carrots seeing as they were #1 and #2 in the B&F.

I think it is more likely that we just needed their experience and skills in executing the new game plan around the youngsters we were bringing in otherwise we would have been thumped so bad they would have been worse for the experience not better.

While this may well be the case, it totally contradicts your previous post, that the reason he needed to play this game:

Houlihan - Must get him suited to his old-new position up forward again, exactly what the NAB Cup should be used for.
