Through the Dashboard? I think you might be getting confused as to what XMB stands for.

XMB is the X-Menu bar. Which can be accessed within any game on the PS3. the XBL Dashboard can not be accessed AT ALL.

apples to apples.

What exactly can't you access ingame?

So what is it from the XBL dashboard you would be so interested in accessing mid game?

To be honest I've found the new in game menu useless. I prefer the old style, but holding the PS button for a couple of seconds brings that up so it's no big deal.

the new in game menu is fantastic!

now when i see messages come in i can instantly look at them and add friends in to games etc...

it's all about the options!

and so many things i want to say...but am holding back to avoid infraction...all i have to say is clueless.

I think you missed the point. No surprises there, I might add.

It's the XrossMediaBar (not MENU as you stated), and it does nothing that I want it to that Live can't.

I don't listen to music or anything whilst playing games, so the only thing I am interested in viewing / accessing whilst in game is friends list and be able to send text messages, voice messages, invites for games, join friends games, have voice chats etc.

This can ALL be done in game on Live. The friends profiles are IMO better on live, where you can compare games played / achievements etc. Seeing on the friends list who is playing what is a better layout IMO.

The Store looks better on PSN, but I personally prefer the layout on Live of the Marketplace, it's easier to navigate.

The gameplay on PSN is fine, I don't think there is a clear winner there, but I guess I have more experience playing on live due to online games such as gears, COD 2, 3 and 4 I have on 360, Halo 3 etc.

I could care less about paying $55 every 13 months for live, to be honest, it's no big deal to me.

IMO, they both have their advantages. PSN is free, yes. The online play is IMO on par. The actual community interactivity side of things is a better experience on Live.

Are you happy now Karl?

Now.....why don't you tell me what on the XBM you can access that is so important that you cannot access whilst in game on Live? I await your answer

(its funny you Sony fanbois thinking what PSN has done is so fantastic, when Live has been doing it for years already)

Do you realise that's been a staple part of Live for years?

What's your point here? He has a PS3 not a 360, why would he care if Live has had it for a while, the PS3 has it now and it ain't going away, it will only get better and better.

yes. well mostly the games that have been banded or unavailbe in oz. so people who say you will get banned by playing them on xlive are wroung as i said i have been doing it for nearly 12 months.

You don't really need a chip to play the banned games. The 360 will play a fair portion of imported games from the UK anyway.

The one thing I've really liked about this generation of games, is the availability of titles. For PS3 you can import any game from any country in the world for about $50 or less, brand new. And with the 360 you can still import most games from the UK without much hassle.

Not to mention exclusivity is dying in the arse as well, developers are getting more clout and releasing more and more titles as cross-platform - the actual difference in games libraries between the two consoles is negligible, almost bordering on irrelevant.

Ultimately the biggest differences between the consoles is reliability of the hardware (PS3 is superior), controllers (360 is superior), extra functionality (PS3 is superior) and downloadable content (360 is sueprior).

The lines are pretty blurred imo.

I don't' believe you actually own a PS3, what's your PSN gamertag? And I'm not a Sony fanboy by any stretch. Live is great, and I think it is superior in its matchmaking ability than the PSN is, but I also think the PSN has better functionality (web browsing, PSN store has a better layout, XMB is more user friendly than the dashboard) and is free.

It's marginal, but I prefer the PSN.

The reason I defended the XMB was in relation to LLD's post about what isn't included in the in-game XMB, I was merely pointing out that Xbox has no similar functionality to the in-game XMB anyway, so even if XMB is somehwat limited when used in-game, it still has more functionality than the Dashboard has, in-game.

What are you talking about? You can do all of those things I mentioned ingame on the 360....

Do you realise that's been a staple part of Live for years?

no.....i'm extraordinarily ignorant to everything that surrounds me...
you only now have enlightened me...... :S

you really are joking right?

all i wrote was that it's great stuff compared to what it originally was when traffic light said he thought it was useless.

Do you realise there was his quote box in my post for a reason?

the gap between sony's online and lives online is shrinking faster and faster
and since you own both no doubt you'd have to agree.

better is fast becoming a matter of preference rather than fact....free is a huge tick but seriously i cbf getting into a which online is better war.

(i play my cousins and one other friends 360 every now and again but obviously own a ps3)

(its funny you Sony fanbois thinking what PSN has done is so fantastic, when Live has been doing it for years already)

what a ridiculous thing to say.

it's called being happy to see that they are ever improving upon a free service to the users of their product...

absolutely moronic

i don't call myself a fanboy since i would buy a 360 if i truly felt an exclusive was worth it....(i just can't justify it yet) but what crap you've written

You're right. You caught me out, I don't own a PS3.

Better tell everyone on my FL they might as well delete me because I don't even own the console.

I wonder what I'm going to do with the Dual Shock controller I order from Play Asia on the 12th July (with UTIII for 360). I guess I'll just leave it in the box.

Crap....why did I go and buy MGS4 a couple of weeks ago???? Why did I bother when I have no system to play it on. Why did I buy all the other PS3 games in my collection? What a waste of money.

Whilst I'm at it, I'd better go and ask Harvey Norman Moorabin for my money back...heck, they forgot to give me the console when I bought it.

Yes Karl, I have a PS3, a 40g model I bought in January from Harvey Norman. It cost me $1000 (total package) as I also bought Resistance, Motorstorm, Unchartered and Heavenly Sword. I also bought a HDMI cable. In addition, I have bought MGS4, R&C and some other titles. As I said before, I have a Dual Shock on the way from Play Asia.

So your assumption is because I prefer Live, and this conflicts with your opinion, that I don't own the PS3 at all.

I do. I still prefer Live's interactivity.

Online play with PS3 is great...I've never suffered Lag in Resistance, ever.

BUT, I prefer the set up of live, the friends list, how you can compare games with friends and see the games that players you've recently played own to see whether they're adding as friends.

I like the chat, I like the text messages, game invites, etc. It is, IMO, a better set up than PSN. The Playstation store LOOKS better, however, I personally think the Marketplace is more functional. Who knows, perhaps it's just because I'm used to it as I've been using it longer.

If you have a look through my posts on the PS3, I don't bag it (aside from the god awful controller). I just prefer my 360 at the moment.

BUT, I have stated a number of times, I think the PS3 will be my console of choice as I prefer their upcoming exclusives over the 360's.

Oh and I definitely think you are a Sony Fanboy, you bag the 360 as relentlessly as LLD does the PS3.

Unless, you are simply talking up your hatred of the 360 to counter LLD, who knows.

Either way.

I've posted my 360 GT before on these forums and my PSN is the same. If you're that interested, you can find it....it won't be hard.
