Well the footy starts tomorrow night so here are my tips for the first round:
BRISBANE over Sydney
ESSENDON over West Coast
RICHMOND over Roos
HAWTHORN over Bulldogs
PORT over Collingwood
FREO over Carlton
MELBOURNE over Adelaide
GEELONG over St. Kilda

how about everyone else?

Carlton will belt Fremantle, Freo will improve but rely on Modra to kick most of their goals. Also their form in Victoria is woeful

After getting cold Pies in the Millennium match, CARLTON must think the Ansett Cup is a training run, with the Dockers as their next drill.

BRISBANE, looking to promote the game in FNQ, should be too strong for a gutted Swans outfit.

ESSENDON are taking this game more seriously than West Coast, but who knows what effect the Darwin weather will have. Although, Long and Rioli should have no problems!

KANGAROOS will be too tough for the Tuggers.

HAWTHORN won it last year, while the Doggies (or at least Wallace) seem to be complaining about everything under the sun. Hawks, but will any one turn up in Kiwiland?

PORT have picked all but about 4 of their regulars, while the Pies aren't so much a 'Who's Who' as a 'Who the Heck are They?'

ADELAIDE will beat the Dees because it's being played at Footy Park.

The hardest game to get a bead on is between the Saints and Cats. Some bookies have SAINT KILDA as top eight contenders and they favour the Saints in this one, so I'll give them the BOTD.

Well, well - a couple of surprise results. Perhaps we've written Sydney off a bit too soon, although a couple of people in another topic have said that the loss of Lockett and now Kelly may be a spur for the Swans.

And even though it was a glorified scratch match, Gary Ayres won't want too many more results like this one before he starts hearing the wolves at the door...

Maybe everyone overated the lions they do lack good big guys.

Everyone's prediction about Freo looks spot on.

A lot of young sides always look good early in the year. The only d=side that did play its best team was NM so maybe we shouldn't read much into it

Re: Swans forward line situation - a worry

Could very well be a much different forward line structure next year than what he have been used to in the past. Goodes would obviously come into calculations up there, and you could even throw Leo Barry up there as well if you liked.

Goodes will increasingly figure up forward. That then leaves the midfield really short of spark and a gamebreaker.

If i were in charge of the Swans, I'd be looking for a top 10 pick. O'Keefe is too good a player to not get atleast this.

However, not many sides will trade off a top 10 pick. If O'Keefe has made up his mind about a Melbourne side, then Swans may find themselves in a position where they have to accept something. Given Collingwood's oversupply of forwards, I'd think we'd be in the hunt.
