On Tuesday there will be a huge creditor meeting. Unless something comes out of the blue the sale to Tesna will go through on the block vote of 4000 former Ansett employees who will get thousands of dollars in redundancy pay and walk straight back into their old jobs with Ansett mark 2. They will get 100% payout. On the other hand those who bought tickets for flights that became unuseable will get 5% of the ticket value paid in 2 years time.

Nice and fair isn't it:rolleyes:

Just as fair as all the public servants who took(?) early retirements, then walked back into the same jobs on big whack consultancy fees.

Get your facts straight Frodo. These employees aren't getting paid out and then "walking back into their old jobs". Their ENTITLEMENTS will get rolled over to Fox/Lew, as a going concern. What about the 12,000 other employees? Many employees are still in limbo - not being made redundant, but not working full time eitherl, sometimes 4 days a fortnight. These employees are not allowed to access their accrued leave or anything to keep going. What IS unfair however, is the fact that "Frequent Flyers", who get gifts when they fly, have just as much a say as employees who have worked for years to accumulate their entitlements, and who may not get these due to people's ignorance. These are peoples (workers) livelihoods being decided at this meeting. An unused ticket, or unused frequent flyer points  , is hardly peoples livelihoods.

With all respect it is you that hasn't got his facts right at all.

And frequent flyer points are not free. The cost is inbuilt into the cost of the ticket.

And don't forget that the government has guaranteed all holiday pay accrued and up to 8 weeks redundancy for all Ansett employees, so don't come the crying song, it's my taxes that are paying for that!

You obviously pay a sh1tload of tax.

Some employees lose out their long service, holiday pay etc when a company goes belly up (unless they are related to the PM). The companies kept back this money. Perhaps a better solution would be for entitlements to be lodged with the super fund, until the employee wants to draw on them,

I do pay a load of tax.

My thoghts on leave pay outs are this. Annual leave should not be accruable year to year but any portion owing should always be paid even at directors expense. Long service leave is a nonesense and should be abolished with an equal pay increase to compensate. Redundancy agreements should be scrapped when a company goes under and revert to government norms. Often it is these excessive payments, wrought from the employer by blackmail, that contribute to a company's downfall. If the company goes down then the above normal rewards should revert to normal. After all, if 90% of employees are entitled to 8 weeks redundancy after 5 years work why should Ansett workers get 20 weeks? And why should the taxpayer fund the extra 12?

Lodging with a super fund is wasteful, but I would accept a more reasonable approach of directors personal guarantees to the funds owed to employees be lodged with an annual return.

ps..and an overhaul of the abominable accrual accounting system which needs hours of calculation.
