I don't see this one as racist. S 44 should be one of the first things that any aspiring politician here with links to another country should make sure they're on top of.
She has already stated that she is on top of it yet you and others don't believe her.

This is where the racism is coming into play.

so why is it racist to apply this requirement for a vietnamese origin person when its been applied mostly to european and kiwi origins to date?

Yeah couldn't possibly racist
its just aussies questioning the citizenship of a refugee from a country that no longer exists based on a Wikipedia page

Id happily see the back of Keneally but Le appears to be as thick as pigshit.

"The AEC accepted my application" means less than nothing.
Unless she has official documentation that her citizenship was renounced before she nominated then she is toast.
Also stating that she was never a subject of another nation is mind boggling considering it was a large part of her campaign.

read the ABC article. most of the people being flagged on this issue prior to the actual vote were white.

this is an issue that isnt about race, its about poli's who cant be ****ed doing paperwork (and overwhelming have been white)

Hrmmm going after her by claiming she is a citizen of another country?

Bit of a tough one I know.
Yeah, I know, unprecedented!

Were you living under a rock when:

Bob Day, Lucy Gichuhi, Scott Ludlam, Larissa Walters, Matt Canavan, Malcolm Roberts, Barnaby Joyce, Fiona Nash, Nick Xenophon, Stephen Parry, John Alexander, Jacquie Lambie, Skye Kakoschke-Moore, David Feeny, Katie Gallagher, Justine Keay, Susan Lamb, Rebekha Sharkie, Josh Wilson, Julia Banks, Alex Hawke, Arthur Sinodinos, Nola Marino, Josh Frydenberg, Cory Bernardi, Jason Falinski, Anne Aly, Tony Abbott, Bill Shorten, Brian Mitchell, Nick McKim, Paul Fletcher, Nigel Scullion, Jordon Steele-John, Pauline Hanson, Richard Di Natale, Tony Zappia, Ian Goodenough, Peter Whish-Wilson, Mathias Cormann, Maria Vamvakinou, Sam Dastyari, Penny Wong, Rex Patrick, Tanya Plibersek and Derryn Hinch....

all faced varying degrees of scrutiny for their possible dual citizenship status, and in many cases were forced to resign?

Gee, Saturday night's result has really thrown you into a spin.

My old man is a naturalised Rhodesian/Zimbabwean born in England and mum is French Canadian by birth. If I was to run for parliament one of the first things I'd do is get in contact with those embassies to make sure I wouldn't get any nasty surprises down the track. It's just due diligence.

Cool, point me in the direction of the embassy for South Vietnam
Or what was called the Socialist republic of Vietnam

You know the side that lost the Vietnam war

And if the embassy showed you their middle finger?

yes it is her, a former ABC journalist on the ABC website saying its the Labor party but that's it

like I said I've seen plenty of labor supporters on twitter going off about it and I wouldn't be surprised if someone from a branch is involved but I hadn't seen anything like that confirmed
I have seen zero on Twitter. Not coming from senior journalists.

She's a refugee from a country that no longer exists and hasn't for decades.
This isn't the purpose of S44
No and it's also really shitty to hope to disqualify a refugee by tying them to a place they fled even if it wasn't a giant, stupid waste of time.

Rhodesia doesn't exist either but that wouldn't stop me checking that I wasn't somehow eligible for a Zim passport by some quirk of law.

This is where it started

Of those commenting, few people believe this Tweet was anything but partisan and churlish.

Um, South Vietnam is now part of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which last time I checked, still exists.
That was me mixing up the republic with the socialists
The republic doesn't exist anymore, it lost the war which is why she's living in Australia now
