Antrobus: Misunderstood genius or just another Mug with mullett?

I remember a day out in the Dry area (hardly) with my brother @ Windy Hill & seeing a match between the Eagles & Bombers. Antrobus had been picked to play (god knows why?) and whenever he got the ball people would shout "Drop the ball you idiot and just whack someone!" as that's all he ever really did.
Came from SA with a huge wrap and couldn't cut the mustard.

As for Tony, I thought he was just an amazing Full Back.
One of the best that's been at the club IMO. He never got his just rewards either missing out in 1990 and being a reserves player in '93 (I think, but he may have retired @ the end of '92). He had some tough asks too during that time in Dunstall, Ablett, Lockett.
A bloke who never gets a mention. Big fan here Tony!

As a North Adelaide fan from way back, the Ant was pound for pound one of the best footballers I ever saw. Admittedly, he did lose the plot on occasions, the elbow to Stephen Curtis' head in about 1986 was a prime example, but to win a Magarey when the SANFL was flying playing against rovers like Platten, McGuinness, Naley etc shows he was the real deal.

His mark over a Centrals player (Phil Graham from memory) at Adelaide Oval is the best mark I have ever seen too!

i think daniher's last game for us was the night final against carlton in '93. he got torn a new ******** by kernahan (6 goals i think). hard to know if it was that bad a game really, after all, fletch got 7 kicked against him in the grand final. anyway, after that, he was gone.

Wasn't the same player after going down with his knee at Windy Hill in 1992 iirc. At the time, he was regarded as one of the best full-backs in the AFL.

A Daniher is the second best full back I've seen in the red & black. 2nd only to the obvious.

the Angry Ant..... hmmm.... watched every game he played for us and lets just say that a big fish in a small pond is sometimes better off staying in the big pond. in other words, he was crap.

Wow...solid nine year bump.

I guess I'll allow it though. ;)

In reference to A.Daniher, his last game was in Round 20 of 1994 against the Pies, not the 1993 qualifying final aginst Carlton as stated above.

I have vivid memories of Anthony Daniher getting on to some monster torps straight down the guts while kicking in from behinds. Great fullback and super kick. Super sire too if his recent progeny is anything to go by ... Can we keep breeding from him?

As for Antrobus .... Crazy Adelaide-style 80's mullet with a highly underrated porno mo

Antrobus could play.... but not sure he had the correct focus. He got paid a fair bit from memory - and was one of the first "professional footballers" as they were called back then, i.e. he was conspicuous for not having a job.

Whereas Anthony Daniher would have been part of the Daniher window cleaning empire at the time.

Concur about Anthony Daniher, but not Antrobus.

Anthony Daniher was a very, very good footballer. If he stayed injury free, his rep would have been much greater.

As for Antrobus, he could have been anything. He was extremely talented. The club was very excited at the time, and great things were expected. Yes, he was pretty firey too. Unfortunately for him, we never got to see him anywhere near his best, because of back related hamstring problems. Nice guy, too.

The Angry Ant...came over from SA at 29odd and played some good footy from memory in 89. Kicked a ripper left snap from the members pocket @ Windy Hill against the Tiges that got goal of the week. My memory of him fades post 89 tho and remember he was shipped over to the Saints in 91.

Anth Daniher was one of the better full backs of his time I thought, stitching up the best...Ablett, Dunstall, Plugger, but began to taper in early 93 and became 2nd option to a kid called Fletcher.

Cale Hooker is quite good isn't he? ;)

Gun forwards were kicking huge bags on regular basis when AD was around...don't remember this EVER happening to him. I'm sure Plugger or Dunstall got 5-6 at some point but they were kicking 7-8 regularly and ridiculous tallies some days...was rock solid.

Also kicked massive barrels.

I was talking about Rotten Ronnie! :D

can only judge him by the footy he played. he's up there with Shaun Lewfatt, "Killer" Kilpatrick and Willie Dick
Ronnie was a chb  ....Antrobus was as uber talented lunatic, whose back injuries curtailed his career...

Anthony Daniher was a solid full back with a booming kick, did play at Sydney at CHF though...We didn't have space for him in the forward line...But will be remembered as possibly the greatest sperm provider this club has ever seen!!!

Aww man...? He was better than that! He played some decent games & was only half fit in 50% of them..

I was lucky (or unlucky) enough to spend a fair bit of time in the injury room with him. Seemed a nice sort of a bloke, but I wasn't about to annoy him...

Do you guys ever take into consideration the injuries The Ant had? He makes Gumbleton look like a regular.

Not a chance, Ant was way better than that. Remember a few games he played and one in particular against the Hawks. Pretty sure it was at Princes Park and anyone who was there that day would have no hesitation in saying the Ant could play. Probably his best game for us.

As Basil says he was very unluicky with injuries, although from what I heard/read at the time he could have done more to help with revcovery,
