Doctors can only do so much, If the Ligaments keep snapping it's down to luck pretty much. Nothing to do with shitty doctors, just some Knee Reco's work better then others, you can get back to 100%, or be a Beau Muston where it just doesnt attach all-together and you have to re-try. The guy who did my knee does all the knee surgerys for the west coast players, Mine really never got back 100%. Im sure as hell not blaming the doctor who did the best.

imo its never really the same after a reco but close to it. but, when you get to elite level sport you get the best recovery money can buy but the surgery is all pretty much the same. my reco was done by a ex MFC ortho. at the end of the day the graft has to heal biologically and sometimes it just doesnt work.the problem is going to be where to take the graft from? really feel for the kid as i know whats its like.

Three knees by 21 means you got to walk away from the game. Quality of life could be screwed in future if he did a 4th. Got to feel for the kid.

as i said the problem will also come from where the new graft comes from. if he had a pattella and hamstring graft previously where next? maybe his other leg as those will already be weakened from previous surgeries.

Life can be so cruel sometimes.

I'll stand corrected by those that know more than me, but with an ACL like LeCras' last season, where he has no history of knee problems prior, a simple turning motion tore his ACL. Does this not mean that the ligament was already suffering wear and tear and the final twisting motion was the final straw? Could they not have detected that the knee was already 60% (or whatever) damaged? I don't know, as I said in my previous post, there's obviously a reason they don't do it.
And what then? If there was some fraying or a little wear, but no symptoms, what do you do? Stop him pivoting, stop him playing at all? Give him an augmentation, a "little" op to strenghten his ACL , and hope after 6-9 months rehab it's ok? Pandora's box here. Some players have had an injury where the ACL has looked injured on MRI, and felt injured, and have successfully been treated with conservative measures.

I really feel for AM, and we at Geelong have some fears for Dan Menzel, a supertalent as well. But at the end of the day, such is the nature of footy that it comes down to survival of the fittest. Nobody is immune, even Ablett snr effectively ended his career with an ACL injury.

You are probably correct that there may have been wear, like a stress fracture of the ligament, then some innocuous looking movement puts the icing on the cake. But what to do about these partial injuries is tricky, and more so if they are only detected on screening. No player is going to agree to a "preventive" operation while they are out there running and enjoying the game. That's why, imo, there is no screening up to now. Could see a case for it immediately post season, specially those that finish end August. But it cuts into off season recovery and preseason, and may not be even necessary.

What is his history, both knees, or the one knee 3x? I may have missed his history somewhere here.

Same knee unfortunatly

Really feel, I remember him carving up hawthorn on the wings a few years ago thinking "It's Freaking Stephen Hill on Steroids"

What i've seen the graft has just not grown correctly and has torn off again, Terrible luck

I thought he was sincere when he said Eagles supporters "showing their class". It's really just the one tosser making WC look bad while most are very sympathetic.
Stuff like this should transcend team rivalry, particularly for such a young kid.

I guess this means Mitch Starc comes straight back in?

Poor fella, seems to have all the talent in the world and could be (have been?) the cream on the cake for Freo to go deep, deep into September. Any chance he'll retire? You don't want to cripple yourself for life.

I hope he has another crack. Will be inspiring for anyone if he comes back to footy.

Tragic news. Us Essendon fans know better than most what it's like to see a talented youngster not get a proper crack. A real shame for Freo, as he could have been the cream to get them that elusive flag.

For every Luke Molan/Jesse Smith/Max Bailey there is a success story of a player transcending the odds. Hope Morabito is the latter.

Big Max is still going around and will be pushing for the starting ruckman this year which he only lost through a wrist injury a d .hale playing well. May yet be a success story.

True, he was in the wrong category.

They can use a donor draft from a patella tendon or Achilles, there is a risk of rejection and the graft, being dead doesnt always take as well as an autograft.

Feel bad for the kid, I wish him all the best and a healthy recovery. Stuff like this can be catastrophic to someone's confidence and quality of life.
