Anthony Mundines comments were a “bit out of line” with the current events of the World Trade Center. I for one don’t condone attacks on innocent people and “inhuman” people committed these events.

As for Mundine himself I feel he has his faults (like everyone) but he also has his positive attributes. He is different to your boring and “tow the line” sports-people and most of the time I feel he says the things he does in order to create publicity.

This is a vital commodity in the sport and the industry he is and the old adage of “any publicity is good publicity” applies.

His comments have some fabric and credence as America has contributed to people/groups hating and thus attacking their members. I feel they have “butted in” regarding the Middle East as they have supported countries such as Israel in their civil wars.

If they didn’t get involved with this financial and military aid to feuding countries none of these attacks would have occurred. It reeks of the Vietnam conflict as America got involved with a civil war (the North supported by the Communists, the South lead by the Americans) that was none of their business and had been on and off for a number of years. (I feel I have a right to comment on this issue as my father served in Vietnam and I majored in globalisation studies in my Commerce degree)

What I’m trying to say is that if America didn’t stick their nose in the Middle East then these attacks would have never occurred.

However the acts by the terrorists were shameful and it was truly a sad day for mankind. Innocent people were killed (just like in the Middle East, not reported by CNN etc.) which is not acceptable.

Mundine was taking the “America deserved it” line a bit too far but it has some credence. I feel his motives were in order to create publicity

And just what are the Americans supposed to do about Israel, forget all about an ally, surrounded by enemies just waiting to destroy it? Don't forget, Israel was formed after WW2 by the UN, for the Jewish people to have a home, so they (the UN) and the US have a duty to protect them.

Having said that, Israel hasn't helped themselves much with their policies and actions and I don't blame the Palestinians for fighting for their own homeland, but I think the US should be more involved diplomaticaly, not necessarily militarily. If Israel was just thrown to the wolves, it would make the situation worse, not better.

What are we, the western world, supposed to do when another country steals another country? Sit on our hands and go "No Wuckers"???

You steal a car and get caught, you go to jail. You steal a country, you start a war!

You write racially inciteful graffiti on a building to prove a point, you go to jail. Try and park a plane in that same building to prove a point, you start a war.

Why on Earth would you ever do nothing on crimes that are of a huge magnitude?

Being a Hippie in theory is one thing. But the fact remains, that these feral animals consider the lack of response a victory (see African US Embassy response).

Response is not only warranted, but a necessity.

Agree with Figjam, Mundine is a disgrace, and no amount of pathetic back tracking is going to save his sorry ass, ...he meant what he said.
Mundine might be trying to emulate "Ali" as a boxer, muslim, and as a personality but he is finding out that respect is something you earn... and whatever minute amount he had has just been lost forever.

Agree Mundine shot his mouth off a bit too far this time......but on the other hand since when has some lowly ranked punchy's views on world events held any credence whatsoever???

Why all the big fuss??

And don't tell me that he is meant to be a role model, this guy punches people for a living for god sake!!!

Cheers

For sure, the World should do something about it. The only problem I guess is when the World does something ie. Kuwait and then several years later does not ie. Rwanda and, to a lesser degree, The Balkans (where the UN entered the Balkans several years after conflict had already started). The problem is once you start taking action on crimes and wars being committed elsewhere around the world you're morally obliged to continue the work or it looks inconsistent. Which has been a problem for the Western World in the last few decades, being willing to sort out some conflicts but leave others alone.

For the record, I believe the US should go after the people who perpetuated the crimes of September 11 but be careful in not killing innocents in the meantime. So far, I believe that they have done a decent job, as good as is possible in a war.

Yeah...a shame that it was meant to be an arrest, not a war, hey.

An arrest would be a preferable option but that was never on the cards, the US were always going to retaliate, their public virtually demanded it. An arrest was not on the cards since it would cost too many Americans lives and they weren't going to risk it. Their logic is why bother sending 5000 troops in straight when a large proportion would never come out, so they decided to bomb strategic sites (unfortunately getting some innocents too), and make their moves from there.

The whole scenario since September 11 has been a pretty sorry affair for all parties involved (everyone has suffered, particularly the innocents both in the US and in Afghanistan), the US have so far shown more restraint that I thought they would which is good. But, the inevitability is that innocents are going to get caught in the middle, which is the real tragedy.

Some Friendly advice to Mundine.

You might think it, but don't say it. It's not Politically correct at the moment.

Perhaps if Australia ACTUALLY had a terrorist attack (heaven help us) then we might get some realistic responses. I wonder if Howard would be a Hero or Villain then ?

It was actually Britain that was pivotal in the creation of the modern state of Israel, something that can be put down to the machinations of WW1. The Allies were falling over themselves, promising the world to Arabs and Jews in return for their support. UK Foreign Secretary Alfred Balfour championed the formation of a modern Jewish state, something which was agreed in principal in the Balfour Declaration of 1917. Zionism had taken root at the turn of the century, and Jewish settlement in Palestine had been growing steadily since that time. However, Palestine was by no means an early front-runner for the site of modern Israel. Discussions between the British government and Zionist leaders had singled out other sites, mostly in Africa.

The presence of Israel per se had undoubtedly been an agrivation to Arab states, however, it had been cultivating much better relations with some countries (notably Jordan). Perhaps if it weren't so naughty, and obeyed UN directives to stop populating and developing its infrastructure in the Palestinian West Bank, then there may be greater hope for peace in the region. It's continued refusal to do so is outright provocation and, having lived in the Middle East, I know that one thing you do NOT want to do is provoke an Arab.

The looney tune Islamic fundamentalists are renegades who have mostly been exiled from their own countries. If they were to take on the Palestinian issue, it wouldn't be because of the Palestinians. It would be fought on religious grounds. One thing you could be sure of - any organised attack upon Isreal is unlikely to come from an alliance of surrounding states - all of whom have too good a relationship with the US (except Syria) to give it even a moments consideration. That is why the Palestinian cause has been so futile - no Arab nation really wants to go into bat for them. No - the US presence in the Middle East has plenty to do with something else - O I L!!!

I have never read anything as silly as someone blaming America for the September 11 terrorist attack.

The Mid East policy of the US realy hanothing to do with the attack. Bin Laden and his cronies have done nothing to help the Palestinians before and are using tha issue as an excuse to promote their own ends.

As long as they have a willing gullible mainly uneducated following then the attacks will continue.

The war against terrorism is not a war against Islam. If the U.S. wanted to get rid of Moslems, it would have let Milosevic finish of the Albanians in 1999. It didnt.

Of course the U. S. has made mistakes in the past particularly in Rwanda and Somalia. The point is they do not wnat to make those mistakes again.

Bin Laden does not represent any religion or country. He is beholden only to himself. He has no authority to commit any of the terrorist acts. He is just a guy in the desert who cowardly appears only on video. How brave.

The U.S. may not be perfect, but th eare the only state capable of acting as some form of world police, and without them the world would really be in a muddle.

The fight against communism after ww2 including Vietnam was correct. What was wrong was that the U.S didnt finish the job properly. Communism ha sbeen the biggest political scourge in the history of mankind. If ti wasnt for Communism, my family would not have had to escape and live in exile for 50 years to never see their relatives or homeland again. My parents died here.

The only good communist is a dead communist.
The only good terrorist is one that dies before he can commit terror.
