As soon as a Melbourne club fails it will be shunted off to hte gold Coast (but playing at the Gabba) or West Sydney playing in a really fine stadium

You have a team well supported even though it doesn't rate on TV at all. Oh, don't forget the extra $$$ by the AFL to be dominate in the competition year after year while Melbourne clubs continue to struggle on and off the field even though dumb-arse Victorian supporters still support them with the pathetic belief that they think their Melbourne club can actually win something.

Yep. And the only team left in Melbourne is the Storm. Anyway, Vics are moving out of Victoria by the thousands each week. No wonder Melbourne clubs are struggling.

By the time the Gold Coast gets an AFL team the Gold Coast is already likely to have a much-needed NRL team playing at an upgraded 25-30,000 seat Carrara Stadium [Interestingly, during the GC City Council election campaign, new mayor Ron Clarke argued for a 40,000 seat budget stadium.. not sure whats become of that?].

Therefore, any relocated AFL team to the Gold Coast will be up against a newly established NRL team in RL heartland.

It's my strong belief than an Gold Coast AFL team playing all home games at the Gabba will fail to generate the expected interest on the Gold Coast, particularly considering the Gold Coast remains RL heartland.

The difference is Fremantle is Aussie Rules heartland and Freo residents would walk over hot coal and broken glass to watch their very own AFL team. The Gold Coast is not Aussie Rules heartland and any new AFL team would need a significant local identity, which would be difficult by playing home games 100km+ up the highway.

Belief has nothing to do with it . It research ,trial games,promotion,performance,etc .

The only hearts in GC are old retires from Mexico .

You really got to get away from the notion of one code winning or losing and magically picking up the others suppoters .RL failed the last time they ventured the GC .They'll probably do better this time .An AFL side would struggle if for the sole fact they depend on much larger crowds for existance .But the two are quite independent of each other ,at least for the first decade .

RL failed the last time they ventured the GC .

I would argue they were very succesful considernig their onfield results were rapidly improving towards the end, and there bank account balance was one of the best in football.

The only reason they got chopped was because they elected to remain loyal to the Sydney Competition, I mean ARL, which means nobody was truly surprised when the ARL disgracefully chopped them for the purpose of saving Sydney teams.

They'll probably do better this time.

They sure will, because the key ingredients of stability and a willingness to make thigns work from the corridors of power in Sydney.

LD the GC is a "recent" developement .The fastest growth area in Australia due mainly to a large influx of retirees . I hear now that the Japanesse is the second language .It may seem that it always was there ,but that is not the case .As such it is not as traditional as the rest of QLD as such is the case in many parts of Australia with high immigration specifics .


As for the research remark - you can "IMO" all you like , but untill it happens or hopefully someone does extensive research it's a matter off argument .

Explain your "recent" development as it relates to RL. Are you suggesting it hasn't been League heartland for nearly 100 years?

The Swans looked like they would be asking for assistance in 2003 but in a better than expected performance they produced a modest profit , so not needing any financial help .This "askance" was going to be due to a specific one-off event ,not due to a continuing non-performance a la Storm .

Considering Manuka can only hold 15k that crowd was pretty good. I'm sure the "original" Kangaroos were happy anyway no matter who turned up because they got the gate receipts. Some NRL clubs would be happy to see that figure. Anyway, tomorrows game here wont draw that many due to who they are playing and the forecast weather conditions. At least we get to see a game.

The fact is that it was a home match in the NRL for two sides and an away match in the NRL for two sides. So?

The AFL record had two matches and an AFL match takes a lot longer to play than an NRL match. What is it, 90 minutes for an NRL match as against 3 hours for an AFL match?

The AFL has stolen League ideas before, surely a double header at the SCG would fill it? Why do you think they don't?

It was H&A. It wasn't finals, It wasn't representative League.

It's irrelevant if it was because it was the opening of a new stadium, it is the record for H&A matches in any code in Australia. End of story.

It's only if you don't want it to be considered the record that you'll ignore those facts.
