Because it was deemed impossible to clean up and regulate.

I'm still failing to see why they shutdown the industry rather than put efforts in to regulate and clean it up.

The way I read it "the industry is unable to reform itself" really means something more like "the industry will resist change being imposed on it by outside parties like the State Government".

Yep and that's a good insight however you would think the industry would nearly self regulate if being threatened by being shutdown. Any animal racing doesn't do much for me let alone the dogs however I'm finding this a bit odd with all other states that have the dogs will still run. Was NSW that bad compared to qld and vic? What controls will be put in place to ensure the bad eggs won't cross borders? Or is that up to the industry? What happens to the honest people that lose their jobs?

I see this as a reaction that has not really been thought out. The industry needs a massive shake up and traditional practices that torture and kill animals need to go, just don't like the Sledgehammer approach without any thought to the repercussions or consideration to other solutions.

we've tried that before, hence why 4 people went to prison over violations. all the industry did was sweep it under the rug and close ranks.
we're not dealing with something like not failing to file a tax file number correctly or not changing flickering lights above someones desk in a timely manner.

the industry has had dozens of opportunities to reform, they banned blooding, they mandated upgrades, made fix races illegal, brought in vet checks, drug tests, RSCPA inspections. nothing worked, in fact the very people out the top those who called for the reforms were shown to travel interstate to get around them at times.

As has been said, the report disagrees with you. The industry was considered a lost cause and unable to reform itself according to McHugh J.

I know that and I look forward to the report about mass ill dealings within Star casino, the gg's, pokies etc.

Tell me why those sectors are exempt? When the crooked trainers move interstate how will that be dealt with by different state jurisdictions...........or is it again up to the industry to "regulate" that?

What a weak argument. So because there are other industries conducting "ill dealings" we should just allow this to continue unabated.

Pokies reforms and regulation have been attempted plenty of times but are continually skittled by the Liberal Party (at the behest of their gambling lobby mates).

Point out where they are wrong.

Dont bother trying to explain concepts like empathy to Lebs.

He sees everything and everyone as a commodity to be exploited.

Where they are wrong? If they showed some concern for the welfare of human beings, they would be appealing to Baird to clean up the small minority who are not doing the right thing. Not shutting down an industry that will result in the slaughter of tens of thousands of greyhounds and the destruction of livelihoods.

As has been pointed out to you. The report indicates the industry CANT BE REFORMED. The best option was to shut it down and help the good trainers transition out of the industry.

through this entire thread you've done nothing but justify abuse, encouraged it and said the only thing that matters is betting, you've talked about how wide spread it is and how people who don't race "don't get it" and wouldn't understand. you've even claimed nailing a live rabbit to a board for a dog to chase is a service and how executing animals who can't run is mercy and now you fain sympathy of animals and want to "clean up the industry" your exactly why attempts to clean up the industry failed.

don't pretend all of sudden you give a s**t about the plight of the animals or that we're dealing with rogue operators.

There is a big difference between pests like rabbits and greyhounds.

There is a big difference between pests like rabbits and greyhounds.

so why do you want an industry which slaughters 3000 greyhounds per annum to continue?
hell that's just in one state, what is it nationally? 10,000? 15,000? 20,000?

if your trying to convince us its all about protecting greyhounds please show us how the wholesale slaughter of dogs is going to stop?
see for all your claims of "think of the dogs" here's the facts you can't avoid.

the only reason any dogs will die as a result of a ban on greyhound racing is if, callous trainers and owners have them put down, because they can't make money off them.

and if greyhound racing continues callous owners will continue to have the bulk of them put down, the moment they are no longer useful.

the only difference is generationally the slaughtering of dogs will cease. after the pricks who "really care about their dogs" have them put down this time, thats it. no racing, no more breeding, no more torturing fluffy animals, the cruelty stops. Well in NSW anyway, culling of dogs will continue in the other states, year. after year, after year. as well all the blooding and other systemic abuse the report brought out.

tell us if trainers care oh some much about their dogs, why are planning mass executions at all?
the answer is because they don't give a s**t, their not pets, their not friends, their not companions, they are an investment and nothing more.
the trainers are planning to dump them as if they were any other unprofitable stock.

of course in this case instead of calling their broker, its done with a needle or as the report showed, more likely a .302 out by the sand pit.

inb4 obeid (or the liberal equivalent) snaps up wentworth park.

in reality will this mean anything other than the bottom 80% of the dogs getting slaughtered anyway?
