Mate i work at the hospital i mentioned in my post above. Im giving an insight into whats happening. I watched my ex struggle to get employment as a nurse after graduating here during the outbreak of the pandemic, simply because she was born in Nepal. If you're going to ask a condescending sarcastic question you can cram it.

I normally can't stand Van Badham for her extreme left-wing views, but her article in today's Guardian on her personal experience with measles after a doctor advised her mother that Badham didn't need a vaccination is pretty telling.

There should be laws that parents of unvaccinated children are guilty of assault or murder if their child becomes ill or dies of a vaccine preventable disease.
These people are pretty selfish and are quite happy to put their own children at risk of horrible illness and death so that they can get a bit of attention and feel like individuals. Make them suffer for their own actions, and they may not be quite so keen to put their children at risk.

I love the quality of ..it you post. Jail parents who don’t vaccinate their kids and they die from a preventable disease but aborting viable foetuses that are alive is fine. Your avatar would have a higher IQ.

I didn't say to Jail parents of unvaccinated children. However if unvaccinated children suffer from vaccine preventable diseases, the parents should suffer the consequences of their behaviour. Thus be found guilty of assault and even murder.
Surely you don't think people, lake anti-vac crazies, who deliberately put their children at risk, and who's children then suffer horrible consequences from their parents utterly irresponsible and attention seeking behaviour should be allowed to get away with it?

I vaccinated my children and I have no problem with those who don’t. People with your views killed more than 100 million people in the 20th century. Are you keen for a repeat?

I'm a bit of a history buff, but I've never heard of an event in the 20th century where people who supported the science of germ theory massacred 100 million anti-vacc crazies. Please enlighten me.

In any case, I wasn't arguing for them to be killed, just be held responsible for their own actions. Why should the state always have to foot the bill. The kid in America who's parents almost succeeded in killing him with tetanus cost the state $100s of thousands. They should be charged with attempted murder.

Which then becomes problematic as less and less people vaccinate themselves and their children.

I believe the golden number to ensure herd immunity is 95% of the population needs to be populated.

There are areas in Melbourne where the vaccination rate is under 90% and falling. Alarming stuff.

It's complicated.

Herd immunity depends on the on the germ and how contagious it is. The more contagious it is then the more people need to be vaccinated for herd immunity to work. Measles is very contagious. To achieve herd immunity for measles at least 90-95% of the population need to be vaccinated. A disease like polio is less contagious, and 80-85% of the population would need to be vaccinated for herd immunity to work. But polio is almost completely eradicated in most Western countries so there's very little risk if you live here and don't get that vax.

Also the vaccination rate is not the same as immunisation rate. The flu vaccines that are promoted every year can have a low efficacy rate and there's some evidence that points to a negative efficacy. ie if you get the flu vaccine one year then you are more likely to get the influenza the next.

Another complication is that when vaccination rates are quoted they are talking about the percentage of children who have been vaccinated. When you include adults who haven't been vaccinated or the immunisation has expired its protection period then we are nowhere near the supposed required numbers for herd immunity.
