Good to see Sumich make the final cut for the state 16's, though i suspect he wasn't one of the first picked like Waterman.

Claremont – Bailey Banfield, Jeremy Goddard, Sam Petrevski-Seton, Jacob Sideris, Dylan Smallwood, Jake Stergiou, Jake Waterman;
East Fremantle – Luke Strnadica;
East Perth – Connor De Campo, Alex Di Placido, Jed Kemp, Samuel Powell-Pepper, Stanley Wright;
Peel Thunder – Michael Humble, Noah Hura;
Perth – John Levien;
South Fremantle – Dylan Brown, Mitchell Dzelebdzic, Zane Sumich;
Subiaco – Jacob Miller;
Swan Districts – Aidan Clarke; Brad Fullgrabe;
West Perth – George Popzeleff, Joshua Rotham, Brody Zanon.

Is that a Banfield we should be paying attention to?
He's not related to drew at all if that's what you're asking

He's a broome boy. Watched him play juniors up here as he was in the same age group as my son. Would absolutely dominate games. Very natural footballer and a great reader of the play. Lovely left foot kick

Not sure how that translates to a higher level down there but he must be doing ok to make the state squad for his age

And not playing for the Division 3 NW side on account of him boarding at Scotch.

Did Waterman play in the 18's against Vic Country yesterday?
Yeah, not his best game. Played outside the centre square (wing mostly) and played limited minutes again. Got into good position to receive a handball on a number of occasions in the first half but the inside midfielders preferred the throw it on the boot option, rather than show composure and work there way out of a stoppage.

Like the team in general he lifted in the second half, laid some strong tackles which could've been rewarded. His hands were not as clean as usual (a couple of spent it before he had it moments), but he was also strong in the contest and got out some handball. Was covering the ground well in the second half, showing a good work rate.

One thing that is frustrating with him is he is almost too unselfish at times. On occasions he is in good position to take a loose ball, but he'll leave it for someone else and look for an opponent to block. He should be more aggressive in those situations. He also spends a lot of time organising, pointing and looking for a man to cover at stoppages that he is often out of the contest by the time they bounce the ball. Good team player, but he should be under the rucks nose as much as possible winning the ball (I'm not the coach unfortunately).

We will probably get him with a second rounder, and I'd take that every day of the week.

So definitely not Priddis then. Could definitely learn that from Priddis though, so worth them spending some time together..

I reckon Moore and McCartin are lucky to be there, Brayshaw in the backline wtf. Either there was no one better or the selectors just have to fit their favourites in. Blakely was a better midfielder than Stretch too.

It's the Vic AA team.

Said it before the champs and will say it again, i wish Waterman had carved it up and was seen as one of the top 2 or 3 mids in the draft, even if had to use our first rounder on him. I'm not stoked about "stealing" him as a second or even third rounder, very scared it'll turn out we didn't steal anything and he's really at that level.

Waterman not even listed in the top 20 on the AFL website for this years draft.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2014-07-04/phantom-draft-form-guide

If we can get Waterman for a 2nd or even a 3rd round pick we will be laughing! He picked a good time to be injured me thinks.
Twomey showing how little he knows once again FFS.

He'll get the final predictions right because he'll have all the intel in front of him, but this early in the piece he's showing yet again why no one paid much attention to him last year.

REALLY don't get this. Did Dane Beams being drafted in mid-20's mean he isn't as good as he is? Jack Darling? Tom Rockliff? List keeps going. If we can get him with our 3rd rouunder it means we can use our top 2 picks on other talents...

For every Dane Beams or Rocky there's a dozen plodders. I wanted us to be getting a genuine top flight talent who was a steal at pick 10 or so where we'll end up, and be excited by that. As it stands we'll get someone worthy of pick 10, someone worth of a second round which is basically pick 30. Good yes, exciting no.

When was the last time our first rounder came in and carved up? Sheed can't even get on the park at pick 11 which is about where we'll be at again this year. We don't need the same thing to happen next year. Pick 6 which we gave up could have been Aish who went at 7. Someone who was talked up as being a star and has shown a lot already.

Agree, I'd much rather Waterman be showing the signs of being a Swallow or O'Meara rather than being a bit unknown where he could still be a steal, but could just be a good/great player.

But all in all, from the little I've seen and from what I've read he'll be a great player, but not a world beater.

We'll obviously have to wait and see how good he becomes......So he isn't a top 3 standout, what can you do? We will be getting a good player in a position of need relatively cheap. Also, his game against Vic Metro was statistically speaking (yeah I know stats schmats) the biggest game of any mid, so he has shown what level he can reach against top opposition.

I also think he was playing with an ailment as he was rested heavily in the last two games, so that held him back a bit.
