We'll obviously have to wait and see how good he becomes......So he isn't a top 3 standout, what can you do? We will be getting a good player in a position of need relatively cheap. Also, his game against Vic Metro was statistically speaking (yeah I know stats schmats) the biggest game of any mid, so he has shown what level he can reach against top opposition.

I also think he was playing with an ailment as he was rested heavily in the last two games, so that held him back a bit.
I expect he'll be decent, and a valuable piece for a decade+, just they hype preseason was a top 3 pick/best mid in the draft. I would have liked that to be reality, so i think it's fair i'm not excited by getting him as a second rounder, i'm disappointed.

I would say that's no fault of Waterman and don't hold it against him.

PPL who think Twomey knows something... NFI
It's the only phantom draft I've seen so far.

How would you differ? Genuinely interested as love to know who the next crop of stars are going to be.

I tend to read Callum and a few other journos.

On the AFL website they have an under 16s preview (of sorts), and list a few players from each state to look out for.

Jake Waterman was one who's bio is as follows.

Medium forward/midfielder. Clean overhead and reads the ball very well in the air. Composed in traffic with good vision and awareness. Uses the ball well and displays very good goal sense. Can play a variety of positions effectively.

Firstly let me say that i will be very happy when we get young Waterman. HOWEVER, it wouldnt suprise me if he was a very early 3rd round pick- which ultimately may cost us our second round pick and maybe our 3rd rounder.

There were some fantastic players at the Championships in both divisions. And some will have to be "auctioned" and of a higher bid than Alec.

Back to Alec; I actually would of had quite a few West Australians ahead on ratings, let alone SA, VIC C/M and the Div 2 teams.
Blakely, Smith, Pickett,Garlett, Walsh to name a few who i would rate higher.

You would have to imagine that he is a fair way back from where Sheed was last year.
I don't need to imagine anything.

It's a stronger draft than last year. Sure last year had a lot of one directional outside players, but few quality inside players wit Sheed and Crouch the best of the lot. Allowed Sheed to shine at he champs.
Where would Sheed sit in this years draft, in the same range between 10-25 which is where Waterman will go.

Waterman has a strength over the ball that Sheed doesn't and isn't so easily buffered off the line of the ball. You simply can't shift him.

I think sheed and waterman are going to very good inside ball winning combo for years to come add yeo/shuey nicnat / lycett we have done well . We need pacey outside runners with good kicking skills that can hit our forwards lace out and the score board

yep lets use pic 24+/- on a player ranked 30-40 + that's a bargain. Please is that you Woodhouse
Man you say some stupid things.
Waterman has been injured since the state game against SA where he hurt his groin and has been managed through out the carnival.

But please continue to keep giving us your clueless knowledge of juniors from all the games you see them play live.

Also its Rohan O'brien who is in charge of recruiting at WCE.

Well said I clearly rate Waterman a better player than Sheed.

Regardless of how anyone rates him, his talent and skillset won't change based on whether he is a 1st rounder or 4th rounder.

So,if he is a star who,has been out of sorts, or a player with modest ability - the lower we get him the better.

I'm hoping he is a star and we get him with a third rounder, not because it means we get a steal, but the howls from other supporters "WC are draft tampering again, scuttled his u18 campaign and made him feign an injury"

Would be delicious

Pretty much right. Only thing id question is the strength of his contest game at this stage because his height has made him a little bit bias towards marking and thus outside stuff. But he's AIS intake quality IMO, the type of player that attracts a lot of hype from AFL media.

ER - Can't find a spot for Walsh?

And hypothetically who would you pick with say pick 10? I personally like Layverde

Also your opinion on Stretch and Cunico.
Not really. He's got an exceptionally smart inside game but to play that role you need something else these days, compared to a Tom Mitchell he lacks the pure ball winning ability, compared too a Luke Parker he lacks a little dynamism. He's very much a small Priddis too me, plays a lateral game and likes to throw the ball to others sideways too much and he can't penetrate at all. Waterman doesn't read taps as well as Walsh, but he does most other things a level above him kicking, marking, goal kicking, creativity ect...

Id rate Palfrey and Baum higher than Walsh, Baum as a midfielder brings good ball tracking and tenacity at the contest much like Walsh. But brings marking strength and goal smarts to the table, genuinly underrated prospect as it stands today.

I think we'll have pick 8 and i think pick 8 will be enough to score Brayshaw.

More interested in Cunico to be honest, both are too offensively minded but Cunico has more tricks to his game. Can play more places and more roles, neither appear ready made prospects though.
