What a complete over reaction by both that wanker Hutchy and the media.

As a Tiger supporter, I would rather hear an exclusive interview from Jack on the Tigers website about what he thought - as opposed to some stupid TV interview which makes that channel look good. Especially, when that channel spends most of the game (if not, the year so far!) bagging us!! Get over it media people.

I think its now completely confirmed - The Wanker of the Year goes to? Craig Hutchinson from the Channel 9 network.
Lineball with Russell.

Geese of the media award sewn up by these 2.

Can they make it back to back next year?

I think so.:D

I would have loved to hear Jack just after the siren. Bad move Dimma. And the interview Jack did do in the rooms after the match, it sounded like his dog had just died. Keeping a lid on it is one thing, but this was just silly.

On the couch showed hardwick say he told jack not to speak to the media, and he is sorry and shouldn't have told him not to and should be smacked on the knuckles for it and the same time having a cheesy smirk:D

No idea why Dimma wouldn’t let him speak. At the end of the day our players are obligated to do the interview straight after the game and he was the man of the moment. I thought it was very disappointing.

Agreed, there are people such as myself who are overseas and have only the coverage to encapsulate the emotion of the game.
He kicked 10 goals I want to see the kid losing his sh?t post match whilst thanking the team. Dimma is not to blame, the lady who hugged him on the way off is the media manager and i dare say her presense straight after the match meant oh shit weve gone to far with the "we are a team line"
By ignoring the media you ignore fans who rely on the media for their fix. Unfortunate situation, everyone had the best intentions, just think someone needs to get in jacks ear and tell him let it hang out a bit because I for one would love to see it.

Dwayne Russel has marked Richmond pretty hard in the past and doesn't often miss an opportunity to kick us while we are down.... But on the weekend his commentery was very good. He was excited by the Tigers and sounded like he was enjoying it. He is probably one of the better commentators going around.
I think he had the right to be somewhat disappointed by Dimmas refusal of a Roo interview.

As for Hutchy, well we all know the guy is an A grade twit. He soils himself so often it's embarrasing. How can anyone be as wrong as he is soo often - Moron of the year... again.

Find it a bit rich coming from Hutchy who labelled us "a blight on the game". If we are such a blight on the game why was he so keen to hear one of our players talk???

Completely DISAGREE!

I don't care what they have to say after the game. I understand they have media committments but a TRUE supporter of the club wouldn't care as long as the results fell our way.

I wouldn't care if I didn't hear a word from Jack or any player during the year as long as they let their actions do all the talking.

Dimma's sending of the runner out to Jack to stop the interview, was wrong. We're obliged by the broadcast rights to make available any player they request to speak to, and he acknowledged he simply forgot about it.

But, what has been incredibly impressive, is his handling of it since. His apology yesterday was delivered brilliantly, simply through the sheer honesty of it all.

Well done Dimma, you buggered it up, but you redeemed yourself.

Seriously, what a ****ing minor issue.

I'm actually enjoying the flogs in the media getting their panties knotted because of this... you can imagine the opposite, if JR had given an interview immediatetly and not chosen his wordls a little carefully.
Would have been easy to portray him as having tickets on himself, (some people quite wrongly already think he is arrogant).

At the end of the day we are still last on the ladder with a piss-poor percentage and Hardwick is clearly trying to control the psyche of a young team by ensuring they all stay focused.

Slaps on the back behind closed doors for sure but not needed in public... yet.

Yes we are. Its part of the broadcast agreement rights that all clubs make a player available directly after the siren, and a certain number in the rooms, and the Coach in the after game presser. We (the Club) are happy to accept a bucket load of money from the broadcast rights so I think the media have the right to be a little cranky. Apparently the AFL contacted the Tiges yesterday voicing their displeasure.

That said, Hutchie went waaaaay over the top, and I can’t help thinking his Croc Media organisation was the reason. They have the rights to the regional AFL broadcasts around Australia, so im thinking it’s business and not the Richmond fans he’s concerned about.

Agreed. :thumbsu:

Thought his commentary was exciting.

"He's not the Danni Minogue of the Riewoldt's anymore, he is the king".

LOVED that. This kid will be the king of the jungle if he plays this way for the rest of his career.

Jack said that he didnt wanna give an interview because he wanted it to be about the team and not him. what a nice gesture, after all if it wasn't for the midfield supply he wouldn't have kicked ten.

P*** off mate with your true supporter contrived shi*. The next broadcast rights will fetch north of a billion dollars, if that doesnt give us the right to speak to a player after the match then your biting the hand that feeds you.
I enjoy watching the emotion of players because it shows how much they love playing for the jumper. We know what the players are feeling after a win like that let them share it with the tiger faithful who are no doubt feeling the same.
Alright champ if your happy with doing no media for the whole year then im sure youd be happy with the club not taking a cent of the upcoming billion dollar rights money split.
End of the day Jack loves a chat obviously so its no skin off his nose to have a post match chat and we get the added bonus of hearing the emotions of a player at the beginning of something special

I can't believe this has become such a big issue. Big deal, Hardwick admitted he was wrong and in the end Newman spoke.
Jack didn't completely snub the media, he to spoke to SEN afterwards.
I was happy to see Jack celebrate with the players and fans after the siren. IMO that was worth seeing - as someone else said - action speaks louder than words.

Surely the fans and the media can move on.

Totally agree mate
He probably wanted to keep a lid on it, cos he knows he will have 3 opponents on him next week, altho in that form i can see them giving Brissy a touch up as well
Russell should definitely move on!

Yes "a player"..not "a specific player of the media's choosing"...

The fact is the media have now allowed this to overshadow Jack's performance...because it's us...Buddy never used to speak to the media at all and they never whinged like this.....

...and another thing... On The Couch's underwhelming reaction to Jack's effort was pathetic....spent more time talking about this non-issue, how bad West Coast are going...and when they did refer to the 10 goals...it was under the guise of some crap of how he's improved since Gerard had a go at him for being too fancy with his kicking or some such egotistical journo bollocks....

Typical media. They had to find something negative about Jack kicking 10 goals.

As Newman said to Foxtel it's about keeping the lid on it. Afterall we are bottom on the ladder, we don't want to get too carried away.

We are only obliged to provide a player to speak to the media outlets. The media have smashed us 90% of this season. The Fitzroy stuff, betting on no wins for the season etc. They can't have their cake and eat it too. Dwayne pipe would know deep down why Jack didn't talk to him. Hutchy is just human excrament (think Ben Cousins in America). If we win some more, a few of these hypocrites are gonna have to eat their words a little more. Actions more than words boys (and girls). Happy for Jack to stay off media street. Let him talk after he's won a coleman.
