IS it just me or do other people having the feeling of a major upset win over Geelong in Round 1? Seems like its all been set in place for us to take this match, that being no Graham and us actually having a few wins under our belt, regardless of them being practise ones.

Oh wouldn't we love that.

If the blowtorch was applied and i had to put money on the result i think it would be on geelong. Just can't get excited over pre season form.

Having said that we do go into the match with nothing to lose and the cats are "expected" to win.

:D

Geelong still definately deserve to go in favourites.

But Richmond are starting to do something I haven't seen in years. They run the ball up the centre just about every chance they get, rather than chipping to the flanks.Players are running in numbers ,and particlary on Saturday, getting more players to the drop of the ball.Terry should be congradulated for 'deSpudding' alot of the players so quickly

We still have glaring weaknesses in the backline and our shooting for goals still has a lot of room for improvement.

Geelong are still a class above us and appear to have no serious injuries ,I'd expect them to win.

I opened this thread thinking you were upset because you stank badly...

But I hope we play competitively enough in every game to give ourselves a chance.

Spot on, we need to keep our expectations in check, I'm worried that our good preseason form has given a lot of people an unrealistic view of where we are at right now and that will only lead to disappointment.

Thats nice but what has it got to do with this thread. The only people talking about premierships is Geelong mate.Good luck with that.

If you READ what he is saying is that you may very well beat us round 1, you may even win 4 in a row... but that wont get you finals football you need to win consistanly through the season, just not at the start.

cheers :)

We'll be upsetting a lot of teams expected to beat us this year.

It will take some time for the team to gel, but I think we'll pull a couple of upsets in the first 6 games, slump middseason when some of the adrenalin we're running on drains, and come together towards end of season to show how much better off we are now that we've got a real coach.

Bring it on!

One thing in our favour is the absence of ben grahem. Every time he plays us he kicks 5 or 6 so having him out of the equation is good. Ottens and kingsley probably the main forwards were going to have to stop and i dont beleive ottens is a huge goal kicker. But we'll wait and see

The question shouldnt be about do you think we can win, it should be how are we going to beat Geelong?

It's easy to predict garbage, Madtiger explain to me and please when responding open your other eye, how are we going to beat Geelong in Round 1?

Id be happy to get within 6 goals.

Geelong are a solid side.

they have a bit to prove yet my friend, we made a prelim final once as well you know and the rest is history although many suggested the rot set in when we thought we were closer than we were....the quest for a flag ignoring the constant need for youthful talent...I hope for puddy cats sake that the overwhelming pursuit of Ottens at the expense of Moloney and 1 r pick doesn't send them the same way it sent us...

wouldnt be surprised if the cats fell 4-6 spots on the ladder this year. lets face it they are one of the clubs to beat now, dont know how often i have seen it, a club on top one year and the bold predictions of following it up, i wont be penciling them in for finals untill they have been up there for a few years in a row, that said, i dont think we will beat them, but i do think we are a chance to.

I rate Geelong.

Arguably the best backline in the league. Harley and Scarlett are just awsome. Milburn/Wojcinski/Enright/Corey/Mooney/Egan is what we want Haritgan/Newman/Hyde and co. to be in 3/4 years.

Underrated midfeild. Ling is A grade. Bartel, Kelly only a year or 2 off that. I hope the Haritgan and Meyer develop into similar player Geelong has in Corey, Chapman, Ablett, Tenace etc. being able to roatate though.

Forward line talls is the weakness. However that Ottens, if he comes good is a star, King is awsome both forward and in the ruck whilst Kingsley is decent. Playfair and Mackie are also comming though while the smaller types are class; S.Johnson, Ablett and Chapman

Of course a win would be great. In all honestly im not expecting much this year. 14th or so with alot of inprovment would be acceptable. To get within 4-6 goals of a top 6 club would be a good first hitout. We should be able to pull off at least 1 win in the first 4 rounds.

I'd be disappointed if we lost by 6 goals.
I'm realistic enough to think it unlikely we'll beat Geelong but enthused enough to think we can.
We outplayed them for most of the second half last time around when we went all out attack (a plan devised by the players at half time between themselves, according to Ty Zantuck after that game). Now our gameplan is based on attacking I think we could give them a good run.

realistically i think Geelong should win, but their forward line looks a shamozzle with graham gone and ottens in. If we are gonna beat geelong, now is the time, as they still look very unsettled.

Every year a team who made the top 4 the previous year, has a major "fall from grace" - and i think the cats are smelling that way. "key" recruit ottens, not looking so hot, a favorite player / clubman moved on to another club, players wanting to be movie stars, a former Key player in Graham leaving(remember how much we struggled once B.Gale left?) and a whole town with extreme passion with raised expectations of where they are and talking premierships. It all could very easily fall down. end of the day, they had one good year.
