Hi, guys! Having never watched a footy game in Melbourne, I have no idea how warm to dress. Packing my clothes for my trip today, so I would appreciate any of the other Freo chicks on the board give me advice on how rugged up I have to be in Etihad?
Also, does digital radio telecast have the same delay with the afl app when watching live? I don't have a radio to use.
Good luck, glad you made it here for the game, and hope you have lots of fun. Sadly I won't make it down for the game, which means we should win comfortably...
PS - it is a covered stadium, and even with the roof open is much warmer and mor sheltered than the MCG or Subi. Don't over do the rugging up, as even the cheapest drinks (water??) at Eti-turd are ridiculously exy.
PPS - Seppo really does look like Heathy Black, but despite that he is good value even when we are way behind - his chants and flag waving are of epic standards (no pressure
Seppo ).
PPS - If you have a smartphone download the AFL app - the free radio coverage is damn good and has a choice of several stations - see the quad video of Balla's goal from the Geebung game for a sample of the different styles of call).
Also has lots of horse racing and other sports gear. But no saddles or whips sorry coulda.
That's the one

Also often has previous seasons' merch going out at bargain prices.
This is the place. Extended trading hours for some nights too. They change their stock when interstate teams are playing, especially Freo/PA/Brisbane, so if you visit it on Friday from about lunchtime you should find a sudden increase in the Freo stuff there (much of which will be from last year or the year before). They will keep it there until Sunday arvo and then it goes back into their storage - until the next time we play in Melbs. Not as good as the club shops in Perth (obviously) or buying on the web, but as a Freo fan based on the East Coast for the last 17 years it is the best shop to try. Plus it is family run and they know a whole range of sports, so if you have friends or rellos that you want to take gifts back for in other sports (eg world cup, horse racing or swimming) they have a far grab bag of reasonably priced genuine gear and trinkets. If you want genuine Freo gear in Melbourne on short notice, it is the most likely place to have affordable stuff.
Knockoffs, and cheaper "imitation stuff" (like mock Freo colour shirts or socks) are best found at the Victoria Markets - again close to the CBD. The markets have heaps of choice and if you are going over for a boozy weekend, uni excursion or kids school/juniors team trip where you:
- have a limited budget,
- just want to kit out 25 people of different sizes with stuff that roughly matches team colours, and
- don't care if the stuff you buy makes it back home intact (or vomit free) to be worn at Subi for the next ten years
then the Markets are the place to go.
The best choices are likely to be early in the morning at the clothes stalls under the tents, but there is also a store halfway along the set of shops (near the pie shop and the butchers) that has occasionally got Freo gear cheap, mostly genuine. Mostly.
Anyone else have other suggestions??
