Anyone interested in a comp?

Sportsman like behaviour-
I never bump more than twice in one certain play with a player- like everybody says its boring and repetitive. I do bump when people kick the ball which frustrates some people (learnt off illnino :p). Never shot block, only ruck punch in some general play ball ups / 1 certain set play in the centre square. I have been known to receive free kicks that i think are bullshit and handball the ball over he boundary line (won't do this if the game is close haha). Also i believe milking the clock in a reasonable fashion is totally acceptable.

HAVE SENT THE FOLLOWING PM TO THOSE WHO HAVE REGISTERED INTEREST:

Hi all

This is a PM to finalise participants and structure of the BigFooty AFL Live PSN Comp. You are being PM'd due to your interest shown in this thread:
http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=842333

It is asked that you check that thread often for updates. Basically, I am finalising players for the comp. Most of you have provided the info needed (PSN ID, times available, preferred team to use). If you have not, please do so, or I will assume you are not taking part.

TEAM ASSIGNMENT:
For those who have selected a team that someone else has selected, you can provide me with an alternative preference. I will randomly assign rights to a "doubled up" team and then, hopefully, assign the "loser" their 2nd preference. Should a 2nd preference conflict with another person, the one with 1st preference is given priority, so I may move to a 3rd preference if given. If I am unable to assign you with a team due to conflict, I will randomly assign a team not in use. Should you not wish to use the team, you do not need to participate in the comp. Please note I will select my team LAST from whomever is left over.

If we do not reach capacity, in terms of 17 teams, the comp will go ahead. If we get over 17 players, I will THEN ALLOW DOUBLE UPS ONLY (no triple-ups) of selected teams, starting in reverse order of last year's final ladder position (post-finals) in the AFL season. Eg. If we get 18 participants, there will be a double up for ONE team only, and let's say 2 people want Hawthorn and 2 people want Collingwood, then there will be 2 Hawthorn teams in the comp and 1 Collingwood, with the other person who wanted Collingwood assigned another team. However, if we get 19 participants, there will be allowed a double up for TWO teams, so there would be 2 Hawthorns and 2 Collingwoods in the comp.

MAIN RULES:
1. Be ready for your agreed time matches. 15 minutes late and you forfeit. We can use the honour system (also others can see if the person was online or not).
2. One person controlling a team (obviously).
3. Report your scores for a ladder tally (so don't quit too early, and have something handy to write it down). If not reported, then whomever won is deemed to have won 1-0 (instead of 33-12 or whatever your score is). This will hamper your %, so scores are important.
4. You can edit your lineup/tactics however you like each match.
5. My fixtures stand. I am relying on you being available when you say you are. I will fixture based on the times you have supplied (ie. some games you may play on a weeknight, some on a weekend) unless you UPDATE ME with new availability. If you are fixtured to play, as per your availability, and can't make it - tough shit. You forfeit. If you have been fixtured incorrectly based on your available times, notify me ASAP and I will reorganise the match. Please understand that mistakes CAN happen, particularly with such communication methods as we have, and the numbers of people involved.

DEALING WITH LAG:
If matches are obviously lag affected, quit during the FIRST quarter only. Message your opponent (allow 5 min for msg to come through) to inform of lag. Check your internetz is not being tied up by something else. Try again. If it occurs a 2nd time, match is to be aborted with option of rescheduling for a later time (agreed upon by both parties, as long as it doesn't conflict with any of their other league matches) or match abandoned and game is drawn 0-0.

UNSPORTSMANLIKE CONDUCT:
Reporting unsportsmanlike conduct - submit your complaint, in writing, via PM to me. If I receive 2 complaints towards someone, for whatever reason, I will PM them this to notify. 3 complaints and they are named in the thread. 4 complaints and they are suspended from the competition and all of their played games and non-played games are removed from the competition.
1. Time wasting - legitimate tactic if not exploiting the game design. Acceptable tactics include chipping between players, going around the boundary. Unacceptable tactics include wasting time during set shots (ie. just line it up and kick it), exploiting man on mark's immovabilty for a second by playing on backwards and around (can explain this further if required), deliberate 50m penalties during "gimme" goal attempts.
3. Player space - do not go over the mark. Do not encroach on the goalsquare during kickouts (should be 10 metres away from goalsquare). Do not encroach on players taking a set shot (should be 5 metre space around a player).
4. Rucking - Sandilands has an obvious advantage. We all know he does. Punching is a legitimate tactic, but do not overdo it with Sandilands during the centre bounce. Try to punch no more than 1 in 4 centre bounces. Around the ground ball ups and throw ins are free for all.
6. Bumping - Bumping is an allowable tool to use in order to create space for a teammate, or stopping an opposition player who has the ball. Excessive bumping will not be tolerated. Excessive bumping will be deemed as occurred when two players are running for a loose ball and one of the players bumps their opponent MORE THAN ONCE before reaching the loose ball. This is unsportsmanlike and unnecessary. You should not need to bump more than once, well-timed, to get a loose ball.
7. Tackling/bumping after a mark - This is a bug in the game that is hard to avoid for some. But try to avoid it. It is unsportsmanlike and can be avoided if you are a half decent player. Your opponent has right to report you for such conduct if it occurs more than TWICE in a match.

MATCHES:
Scratch matches will be scheduled for Wed the 6th and Thurs the 7th of July at the following times. Guernsey assignment will be up to participants. You will be assign ONE PERSON each nigh to play TWO GAMES against in the 1 Hour period. ALL SCORES ARE TO BE REPORTED BY BOTH PARTIES FOR RECORD KEEPING:
8PM-9PM EST (6PM-7PM WST) - DrParrot; Mkcaptain; Mahama; Lurk3r
9PM-10PM EST (7PM-8PM WST) - HBK619; DT_fanatic; Gibbsy.; Sully_1975
10PM-11PM EST (8PM-9PM WST) - illnino; Scootyb; BlackMamba; skill1414
11PM-12AM EST (9PM-10PM WST) - jorel6669; hirdylloydy1; Stakerz; Forthwrite

PRE-SEASON CUP:
A pre-season cup will be organised following the above scratch matches. Guernsey assignment will be issued by me. Fixture TBA. Most likely format is round robin groups if more or less than 16 players, with the top 8 sides placed into knock out finals. If 16 players (or 8 or 4) are only taking part, then the whole comp will be knockout. ALL SCORES ARE TO BE REPORTED BY BOTH PARTIES FOR RECORD KEEPING.

SEASON:
A season will be organised, with each side playing the other twice. Guernsey assignment will be issued by me. Fixturing TBA. Top 8 sides at the end of the season will play a proper, AFL-structured finals series. Rounds are most like to take place every couple of days, pending your availabilities supplied. Some fixtures may have to be delayed (eg. DrParrot is available 8pm-11pm, while Stakerz is only available after 11:30pm during the week, yet both are available after 5pm on Sunday, so their fixture may get delayed). ALL SCORES ARE TO BE REPORTED BY BOTH PARTIES FOR RECORD KEEPING.

That is pretty much it. I don't think I've missed anything, but poke me if I did. Make sure you add all the PSN IDs (I will try and do mine over the weekend, for those I haven't added). I will fixture the scratch matches for Wed/Thur on MONDAY JULY 4, via a new thread (I will post it in the interest thread so you have linkage).

Anyone who wants to be part of the comp still can until the end of this weekend. Just need all your details as stated at the start of this post. You will be added to the scratch match groups.

Cheers guys.

@jorel6669

I will give it a crack

PSN: Marlon1a
Times: After 6.30 pm Cst (7pm est) - Happy with Wed/Thur as suggested
Pref team: Power
2nd choice: Saints
3rd choice: Hawks, Bombers...whoever...

Cheers

Very well written Jorel. Agree with everything that is on the post there.
Do you have any sort of guideline about excessive rushing of behinds? It's very hard to actually receive a free kick against for a rushed behind. Maybe something to look at.

Also, I must clarify that I can only player after 10pm EST on Saturdays. Cheers :thumbsu:

In response to those above

... I will list your preferences, but can't guarantee you a side, even if you strongly prefer it. Reason being is that we'd end up with 4 Collingwoods, 3 Fremantles, 2 Hawthorns and I don't really want to play the same sides all the time. I'd like to play Kangaroos or Melbourne. I do understand that people have their favourites, and that some teams are naturally better. But good players will be able to win with any side. And I will take the dreg left over, so no one can complain about having the worst side! If I finish last (willing to be I won't, but you never know), then we can look at how teams are allocated for the next season.
... default teams are the default squads. No custom sides. You can change your lineup for your matches, though.
... rushing behinds is acceptable. The game can penalise it. If you do think someone is being an ass about it then report them to the tribunal (me :p). I don't think people here will abuse it, but you never know.

@jorel6669

going forward either monday/wed/thursdays all good after 6.30. also saturday morn/early afternoons. if i had to i could do tues/fri's but as a once off to make this do-able.

sundays can be a little dicey with family things so count that out.

cheers

I should've mentioned this earlier, but while Wednesday nights are more or less fine for me. Though the time at which I can get on has to be relatively rolling.

I've got basketball each Wednesday night, and this week we're starting a new season...yet to get fixtures (usually happens around round 4). So this Wednesday I won't know what time I'm playing until the day before or on the day. Anything before about 8:20 start time for basketball is usually fine at getting home around 10pm-ish, but can't guarantee what time it'll be if it's later. Thursday's will be 100% fine.

Just thought I'd give the heads up.

Definately keen.

User name: Oketree.
Preference of teams: Richmond, then Hawthorn if it helps.
Availability: most nights after 7pm (Melbourne time).

Hope I'm not to late.

Cheers.

HBK619 - thanks for letting me know. Have moved you to the 11pm-12am EST group for scratch matches. Have updated your availability in this thread (I'll probably avoid giving you Wed matches after this coming week).

okokey - definitely not too late. Have added you to the scratch match groupings in the Competition thread.

Still time for others to sign up.

Jorel I think I can say this on behalf of everyone. Top effort in organizing this. It no doubt would be a bloody time consuming task.

Well done and thanks.

Forthwrite has unfortunately pulled out. Have edited the scratch match groups. I'll be doing up the team allocation and scratch match fixtures tomorrow and posting/PMing everyone. Should find out who can/cannot participate.

Just to let everyone know im off to a karnivool concert on wednesday so wont be available for my scratch match, however im sweet for thursday night.

do hope that no one minds that i am only average at this game, am slowly getting better but will likely get pumped by the good players, do enjoy the game though!

Oh man, I've been assigned Adelaide. Not that I mind playing as them, but hearing their theme song is right at the top of my list of things I like to avoid

Guess I'd better start learning who Adelaide's decent kickers are before Wednesday.

Just a quick query about this "running backwards then around the man on the mark" business.

Why is this deemed "unsportsmanlike"? I may be thinking of something else, but if you are talking about waiting for someone to walk PAST the mark then running straight past them then that is a ridiculous rule. Its exploiting someones behavior, not the game which is in no way "unsportsmanlike".
