Anyone work in the medical field?

Been a maths and science teacher the last ten years, but having my dad in hospital recently after suffering a stroke I've been mesmerised at the professionalism, calmness, and efficiency of the nurses and doctors in the public hospital he's in (Charlie's in Perth).

It's got me thinking how I might be able to transfer careers into doing something in the medical field. I have a degree in exercise and health science and have worked as a practicing exercise physiologist many years ago.

Does anyone work in the medical field? As an allied health professional, nurse or anything related? Can you share your experiences - do you find the job intrinsically rewarding? What setting do you work in?

I worked "on the tools" in Medical Imaging for 15 years and am now a manager in the industry.

I get frowns from my colleagues for saying it but imaging and other allied health fields are a service industry. Ultimately the core of the role is to care for people.

Most states have a course for radiography and mature age candidates do come through from time to time. Common sense goes a long way in a field like that.

I trained and worked as an allied health professional in a clinical setting for several years. Overall, I did not find the work rewarding but it is definitely intrinsically rewarding when you achieve a good outcome for someone.

Agree with what Messenger said above.

If you don't not like dealing with people do not do health. It's a customer facing industry. But if you do like dealing with people, it's a stable job path.

Like anything, become a specialist or develop a niche and it will pay okay also.
