ANZ Stadium...

Just checking out the fixture for '08 and notice we have a home game at ANZ Stadium vs Brisbane, is it just me who has never heard of the stadium? where is it?

EDIT: ANZ is the former Telstra Stadium in Sydney, now to the question of why are we playing a home game there?

Seriously? Cool in a way as it is a lot closer to me.

ANZ stadium is the old QEII stadium where the Brisbane Commonwealth Games were held. It is rounded and was the Brisbane Broncos home ground in between their stints at Lang Park. Wasn't a great viewing ground for League but will be slightly better for AFL. The stands are pretty crap aluminium bench style and uncomfortable (or at least they were). Parking is not as bad as it is in Mt Gravatt rather than inner city and public transport is pretty good.

Still, it won't fare much better than Carrara in terms of comfort and is miles behind the Gabba which is a brilliant viewing ground.

Puzzling choice. Is the Gabba in use at the time or are they looking to upgrade QEII for other events and giving it a workout?

I dunno where ur getting that from. The official fixture realeased on the afl site at the end of last year has us playing that game at Telstra Dome.

Edit: Just checked the afl site and indeed it does say ANZ stadium. WTF? Why are we giving up a home game?!

I think it was just a mistake. The following day the Swans are due to play the Bombers at ANZ in Sydney. I think they just typed it in the wrong spot.

one plus out of our state government hawks playing down here was that i got to see kouta play one last time, and it was only an hour and a half from home. and we won. special night down here in tassie.

The A.F.L site did have it as Telstra Dome.I remember because I booked airplane tickets to come to Melbourne with my son to watch that game.I will spew if they have changed it.
