Geelong have won 7 of the last 9 Easter Monday games.
Rather conveniently ignoring the fact that so many of those were single-figure margins. In terms of pure quality of football, the 118 vs 117 result last year was probably the best game of the whole year.
Only drew 66,000 this year, besides do you really like your club playing home games against Hawthorn at their home ground?
Honestly I love having the game at the MCG. Don't get me wrong, Kardinia's great, but this is the one fixture I never missed until I moved to QLD. The atmosphere is just nuts, there's genuinely meaningful history between the two clubs, and if both of them are up and about, it's generally fantastic.

Besides, gotta win it at the home of footy.

Honestly don’t care. It’s our blockbuster.
We’re happy with it and it won’t change
Understandable given that your club always beat Hawthorn in those games.

Is VFA success relevant to the current competition though, given Kwality raised the topic regarding state and national success?

Especially after this booing display by the fans post game here.
Usually I'm all for booing but theres a time and a place.

Have said it before and I'll say it again....Essendon and their fans....the scummiest, least classy embarrassments of the league.

Disgusting club, I'd be so ashamed to support the rats.
It's awfully lucky that West Coast fans have never been insinuated in any sort of behavioural controversy like that before.

Essendon should’ve been stripped of it years ago. Give it to Richmond.
They get enough of a free kick with Carlton vs Richmond every year ;)

If there's one blockbuster timeslot that never deserves its billing, it's the first game of the year. Should be the Grand Finalists, or the Premier vs the next best-placed side on the ladder a la England's Community Shield.

This match up makes perfect sense for the biggest home and away fixture on the AFL calendar.

The biggest club being Collingwood.
The most successful club being Geelong.

Rotate the game between the MCG and Kardinia Park.

Collingwood vs Essendon has become too one sided.

Geelong have won 16 premierships.
Hawthorn have won 13 premierships.
VFA premierships don’t count..

If... we were to count VFA premierships, Essendon would have 20 Premierships... therefore making your argument to change teams in this match, null and void..

Do some research next time before starting a new thread..

I don’t overly care about their insignificant success. ANZAC Day is fine the way it is.
As are most of the other repeated blockbuster games

They just contribute to the continued inequity of the fixturing.
Dollars matter to the AFL we all know that. That's why the blockbusters go to clubs that draw crowds.
Also I believe the MCC has a deal with the AFL where they must get a certain amount of prime matches in compensation for losing guaranteed Prelim Finals.

So making ANZAC Day a GF replay is pie in the sky as it'll be one of the matches that needs 1 and probably 2 Victorian sides competing.
Lastly, until the fixture has everyone playing each other once or twice evenly there will be inequity. Might as well make the league profitable in the meantime.
