Not A Bad Effort Bombers! In The 1st 10 minutes i wanted to switch the t.v off, Essendon was really dominating but luckily Collingwood thought back into the game before the Bombers could kick a couple more and maybe the game could have been over that early. But they got outclassed in the end thanks to Collingwood's pressure, 1 percenters and tackling. However, your mob could still make the 8, good luck for the year :thumbsu:

Im not one that likes to bag out the Bombers at all, but I have a few things I needed to post here.

I truly dont believe that Essendon can become a top 8 side with Bolton, Bradley, Peverill and Dyson in the side. I would rather see Dempsay, Lee, Gumbi or Houli blooded.

What Bradley did is inexcuseable, irrelevant of whether he should get the blame for the loss (Which he shouldn't), Bolton did do ok on Swan, but Ok is not what we need. Pev has got plenty of the ball in the past couple of weeks, he is slow to get ball to boot and he was flogged yesterday by Thomas, Dyson has had his chances, he just hasn't done enough. There have been plenty of statements that this year is make or break for Winderlich, but I think Dyson has more to do to keep his spot.

We obviously have work to do, but I think Watson has copped a fair spanking, I seen a comment that it is Football not Handball, Joeb needs work on his kicking, its obvious, but his vision in traffic with his hands is sublime. Scott West and Greg Williams before him made an artform of handballing, there is no reason that Joeb can do this too.

We also need to trust Courtney Johns a little more when entering forward 50... We just dont direct enough football through him. He will receive the 3rd defender every week, has a fantastic set of dukes and is a beautiful kick, its time to use him Bombers.

We were outplayed and outhustled yesterday, but its a long season and there is things that the Bombers can do to push for a top 8 spot... :thumbsu:

after attending the anzac day match i can conclude the following things.

Ok Casey never posted here before, most essendon fans actually present very fair and unbiased assessments, but this is just absolute rubbish and i can't let it slide:

i had my doubts at the start of the season but mal michael is still a champion to me
Giving your direct opponent seven SET shots on goal is hardly the act of a CHAMPION full back, especially with both teams playing spare backmen. If Rocca was kicking like Fev did then Michael would be dropped. If you want a champion full-back, look at Ben Rutten on Big Bad Bustling Boy-On-Boy-Love Barry Hall last week.

davey extremly unlucky not to win BOG
Generally BOGs tend to play 4 quarters, not two. He was very good for one half, but heath shaw was excellent all day; every member of the voting committee gave three votes to heater, davey polled only once. Besides, you'd look at Burns, Fletcher, R. Shaw, Stanton and O'Brien before Davey.

Ryder is an absolute star
My dream team of 2006 begs to differ. Only player in DT history to go down in value from $100,000. He'll be good eventually, but even when he was racking it up yesterday, his opponent, Cloke, was getting just as much of the ball in the forward line, and if his goalkicking wasn't so appalling then ryder would be pasted for lack of accountability.

Rocca is an absolute dud worst 3 bag goal of all time
Rocca did what lloyd and lucas couldn't - he provided a competitive target up forward. Either marked the ball or brought it to ground, and didn't lose his feet like lloyd so he was able to keep it in. Could of had seven if he had his kicking boots on. If you want to talk about cheap 3-goal bags then you might want to have a look at Lloydy who took 2 UNCONTESTED grabs in 2 hours of footy and had to wait for flukey bounces and free kicks to get his three.

i didnt think anyone was worse than milne going for cheap goals and free kicks but didak proved me wrong today.
Anyone who compares an all-australian with stevie milne should be spayed. On top of which it was his first game for eight months after a knee reco. On top of which he didn't miss a shot at goal, even from the right pocket boundary, twice. On top of which your opinions are so pathetically biased and uninformed that even your essendon forum-mates disagree strongly.

Last thing is i'm sorry that i do not no who was playing on lucas all day but he is a disgrace (his opponent) how can an umpire miss a player pushing him in the back and holding onto him every time he just thinks about going for the ball.
In future you should probably learn the identity of the player you want to unfairly deride, it wouldn't have been too hard to put a name to a brazilian face with an afro. It was an excellent game from a 13-gamer Harry O'Brien who kept the leading goalkicker of the comp goalless by being within one inch of him all day and keeping his feet when scotty couldn't. Typified the pressure game that the pies played, not allowing any free possessions.

That just about does it. Sorry to post here but it had to be done. You essendon boys are surprisingly accurate and informed as a general rule, don't let this tripe bring you down.

i'll admit i probabaly used a few of the wrong words in that first post.
michael isnt still a champion however he played well yesterday rocca got 3 of his shots at goal from turnovers where michael was trying to make the play. also 2 of rocca's goals, 1 that was punched through for him and 1 of the softest free kicks of all time (probabaly wont go into that though because yes you definatly have a case saying the same about lloyd.)

Yes Davey wasnt BOG exagerated a bit there however 2 good quarters from him are still worth more than say 4 of a peverills quarters who works hard all day but cant hurt the opposisition.

now this is probabaly your only point that i can really disagree with. you cannot go on dream team points. i hope to get agreement here from anybody who was at the game yesterday that say ryder played well.

i had never quite noticed it before yesterday and except for his brilliant goal from the boundary, didak was a very cheap player yesterday. no doubt we'll get complaints saying lloyd does this and it'll go back and fowards many times but didak puts his hands out and dives to ground anytime he realises he's beat.

as i said i no i exagerated with a few words i used in the first post and i will receive many complaints about the lloyd vs didak comment however i thought it had to be said.

Good post, well done to the Pies, you blokes just continued to run and help your teamates, where we dropped off. Heath Shaw was definately a worthy winner of the ANZAC day medal.
Both sides do have a good future, theres some great young players coming through, and recent games show that the whole competition is a lot more even than people realise.

Crazy man. So Pev got tackled ONCE when he was trying to kick it. Could have happened to anyone. It was a good run down. Have you seen the ranking points by Champion Data??? Thomas had 16 touches, but only 35 ranking points. Pev had 23 touches and 81 ranking points. Thomas had 12 touches after Pev was moved to him. So explain how Pev lost that matchup.

Bring back the chopper

Very dissapointed that the AFL dropped the army chopper for this years Anzac Day clash.

Cheers
Chop:)

Re: Bring back the chopper
