Who cares? He can talk all he wants after the fact. The deal is done, and every inch of ground we take is an inch of ground we're not giving back. Public opinion doesn't matter any more.
The war will never be won as long as the SANFL comprise half the SMA and we and the Crows are unrepresented.

If, by 2018, we are reporting net profits in the region of $3,000,000+ and a slew of the SANFL minnows such as West Adelaide and South Adelaide are facing extinction because they had 25 years to secure alternative viable revenue streams but were content to live off the meat and bones of the AFLamb, you can guarantee there will be a groundswell for Port to "give back what it owes for 2010-2012" in the next 5-year deal.

So they're still playing the "Grow the pie and you will get more" line.

we averaged 44,000 odd last year. How are we supposed to grow on that year after year?
Maybe they are now telling us to "buy the pie" and buy their shoddy cold and borderline third world meat pies in order to fill their coffers more.

Groundswell schmoundswell. We can tell them to go and get ****ed, because we have the AFL on our side. As much as we like to think that KT and Kochie are gods, they can't do anything without bargaining power, and we didn't have the bargaining power in this deal. The bargaining power came from the AFL and their bottomless pit of money which the SANFL is and forever will be begging for scraps from.
That's the idea in the long run. We're still vulnerable in the interim.

They parlayed the Affiliation Agreement into a half-share in the SMA.

At best we're currently locked in a zero sum chicken-egg game. The AFL provides the games, but the SANFL (laughably) provides the stadium. You can't have one without the other, so the 'bags are still holding a solid hand.

What role will food and beverage takings at Adelaide Oval have on Port Adelaide's financial return?

The vast majority of the food and beverage takings will remain with the Adelaide Oval Stadium Management Authority who will continue to dictate the prices of all food and beverage sold at the stadium.
The misses will be disappointed to know I'll still be taking a flask filled with CC to the football... but the white marquee bar will be satisfied knowing I'll be there for a burger each game.

What I want to know is where they actually pull those numbers from. I assume they are just estimates based on last year's average crowds, in which case a drop of even say 5k per game would be disastrous to the bottom line. We needed to move to a fixed rent model ala the WA teams and Geelong. This is better than nothing but it's still nowhere near ideal.

Paraphrasing but enjoyed hearing Olson squirm when asked two questions. What happens to all the profits made last year. Um well we had costs associated with the move to AO there were staff redundancies etc. Your cost John not my clubs. Then mentioned the SMA only made a small profit. One of the AA ambassadors then asked with SMA making a small profit and port and crows making a loss what will the SAFFL report this year. In true polly mode talked around the issue promised to let you know in a few weeks um and er we can report that after our AGM.

I'm just happy this is a step in the direction of us getting what is righfully ours, and the mob up the road for that matter and the slow weeding out of the SANFL all together from what they have no entitlement to anymore.Am glad this review is done for now and we can move on.The deal isn't the best still, but as REH posted in another thread it's a start of a long process which I'm happy with for now.

The Sanfl will make a massive profit from selling land at footy park.

They will make a massive profit from booking an intangible asset called Leased Asset which in their 2011 annual report said they would bring onto the books at $55m in 2014. This is basically the income stream from AO and using an interest rate/ discount rate of 6% back then means they expect to make an annual net cash profit from Adelaide Oval of $3.3mil in perpetuity but if you do it over the 80 year lease at AO you basically get the same answer.

They then could also make a massive write down od the stadium at West Lakes. They wrote off $49.58mil in 2011, another $3.5m in 2012 and $12.5m in 2013. So dont be surprised if they write off another $25mil in 2014.

Then there is thw AO profit probably $3mil more than budget.

Either way the headline profir figure will be meaningless.

And all this for an organisation that's essentially supposed to be not for profit. I reckon if you peeled back the SANFL layers you'd find a corporate structure not too much unlike that of Apple or Westpac.

Its a start in the right direction, and without knowing the particulars hard to know where the deal sits in -+ terms, but its surely a step in the right direction. Hopefully part of the agreement is in a cpl years to re-assess where all is at, and then take some more from the greed heads.

It is 20yrs the SANFL have be guaranteed for at AO? If so, what are the odds that after 20yrs, PAFC and AFC join together, form a partnership with SACA and take over AO leaving the SANFL homeless... would be gold!

SANFL claim to be poor but then employ Olsen - a bloke that would command a minimum $600K - $1,000,000 per year - and for what ? What the hell does he bring to the table that an up and coming young sports administrator couldn't for at least a quarter or a fifth of that wage ? This is on top of what Whicker pulls out - that is probably more again !! Together they administer a state league comp with an ave attendance of 2-4000 a game ffs !!! Something sure stinks there.
Need a journalist with some balls to expose this organization for what it is.
Hopefully with us being at AO in the second year there will be less "set up" or "moving" costs. A good finals run could see us get to 1.5-2 million profit hopefully
