Part of me finds it comforting thinking that the two SA AFL clubs are no longer controlled by the SANFL and are actively trying to make its involvement in top level Aussie rules end. Meanwhile the WAFL make infinitely more money than the SNAFL, own the two clubs, and invest in them both heavily.

You reap what you sow.

SANFL claim to be poor but then employ Olsen - a bloke that would command a minimum $600K - $1,000,000 per year - and for what ? What the hell does he bring to the table that an up and coming young sports administrator couldn't for at least a quarter or a fifth of that wage ? This is on top of what Whicker pulls out - that is probably more again !! Together they administer a state league comp with an ave attendance of 2-4000 a game ffs !!! Something sure stinks there.
Need a journalist with some balls to expose this organization for what it is.
Hopefully with us being at AO in the second year there will be less "set up" or "moving" costs. A good finals run could see us get to 1.5-2 million profit hopefully
The President isnt supposed to be an employee. Max never was - but some decent expenses would be covered and then there are the questions about which company acted as food and beverage brokers.

Mike Fitzpatrick as chairman of the AFL is not an employee and doesnt get a wage but gets decent expenses paid as well as privileges.

Olsen is worth every cent of the AFL club generated salary the SANFL pay him. A liar, a master of spin and above all a politician.
Sounds great when you put it that way- in short, we employ John Olsen to f*** us over.

As REH likes to quote, power is not given; it has to be taken- this is a deliberate and meaningful step in doing so.

I've seen it posted on the main board that WCE have $50,000,000 sitting in the bank.

That should be Adelaide's station.

That really is a shit deal, there is not going to be much of a profit margin on more or less selling out most games, there is no real room for growth, it wont provide the clubs the means to increase their spending and will deny the club access to sufficient revenue to invest in non-football revenue generation.

While our stadium deal is crap there is still scope for us to improve our end result by getting more people to games.

The main difference with the Eagles is they overcharge something shocking. As much as I would love my club to have $50m in the bank, not at the cost of ripping off the members. When the WAFC proposed the new stadium they intentionally kept it below current demand levels so that they can still charge a premium, they could have chosen to build an MCG size stadium with room for growth and provide cheaper access for WA people but it wouldn't make them as much money.

The 10 key questions (and answers) about the new stadium deal

Why did the stadium deal review take so long?

Keith Thomas: The new financial model was a complex deal that involved multiple stakeholders. The deal was important for the future of South Australian football so it was critical that we got it right. Therefore it was important that we took the necessary time and we are now confident that we have achieved a great result for all football parties in this state.

Who were the key players in the review process?

KT: Working parties from the key stakeholders were established in the early stages of the review process. These parties worked closely with AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan who chaired the review. By the end of the process, both club chairmen and chief executives worked with Mr McLachlan and South Australian Football Commission chairman John Olsen to finalise the arrangement.

Further Q&A Here:

----------------------

I certainly get the impression KT is frustrated, not entirely happy with the deal and certainly has no love for the SANFL. Also no mention of catering, simply put: continue not buying whicker corporations horseshit food.

Well yeah, but you want supply and demand or people are less likely to subscribe on a full-time basis.

We're seeing this with Adelaide Oval now. If it were 10000-15000 seats bigger we almost certainly wouldn't have the current uptake we now enjoy.

Subi is a shithole but it's still decent value compared to other top flight pro sports around the world.

Seriously though, if we're incentivised to keep attendances high, then how is that measured and by what means does it work? If it's measured by food and beverage takings (which is, after all, what the SMA want) then aren't we effectively increasing our take by spending while there?

Some people are forgetting that the $1.5M is ON TOP of the $4-5M uplift that we generated with a grossly under priced membership and with a hell of a lot of one off "relocate to AO costs" that will hopefully be removed from now on!!!

I will take the $6-7M total uplift in stadium revenue compared with bloody AAMI all day everyday!

IMO, the biggest opportunity we now have is the home finals clause... If we can snare a couple of finals per year for the next few seasons at AO (added to the premiership prize money of course) then we should turn some very tidy profits!!!

Right, that's it, I'm officially going down to one beer per quarter and BYO food.
raman pls, take your own.

Hot tip guys, if you wear jeans, you can hold your wallet and take a beer in both front pockets, no questions asked. That just saved you the best part of a lobster, thanks PeacefulWarrior.

I got so skilled at it I would carry a cup of beer to my seat in my front pocket at football park, past the security guards.

Just used to pretend I'd done an ACL or hamstring.

Spilt down my leg once and looked like I'd pissed myself.

Sure.

But the sore point for people is that the SANFL,

- Still gets the vast majority of catering/pourage revenue

- Still gets whatever it receives as a share of Adelaide Oval functions

- Still gets the millions Port and the Crows are paying it for the AFL licences

- Still gets the licence fees Port and the Crows are paying to play seconds teams in the SANFL

- Has seen a massive TV ratings/attendance/interest uplift from Port and the Crows playing in the SANFL

- Still getting millions from the sell-off of the wider Football Park precinct.

- Still making money from various streams at AAMI Stadium, such as naming rights, the forthcoming NAB Challenge Showdown, the Bon Jovi and One Direction concerts and monster trucks(!)

- Still has its other SANFL-related revenues, such as last year's exceedingly well-attended Grand Final despite many Port fans missing it due to their commute back from Melbourne

- Probably extracted extra development revenue out of the AFL as 'compensation' for giving Port and the Crows a better deal

And yet the campaigners insist on crying poor and blaming us for everything from Nickelback albums to scurvy. Awful.

Uh you can just put the best part of a bottle of vodka in a water bottle with two 1.25l mixers of choice in a back pack and have a good old time with no problems.
