they’ll sell or privatise everything given a chance and most of the weak as piss dems will stand with their hands clasped claiming they can do little. for god's sake show some fight like aoc and bernie.

nesrine nails it again. stand-up progressives.

the second. isolate the pricks.

There are now two options for the US’s former close friends and security partners: shed everything, dispense with notions of European solidarity, fast-forward the end of the postwar order, and make peace with defence vulnerability and political subordination. Or embark on a colossal power-mapping exercise. This entails rapid, closely coordinated action on a political, bureaucratic and military level to either replace the US, or at least demonstrate that they constitute a bloc that has some power, agency and agility – and challenge Trump in the only language he understands.

When I think of AOC as a person of government here is what I come up with...
Sure she has more extreme, progressive policy ideas, she should. They should get the discussion going and maybe in some form get implemented. The fight against establishment/corruption inertia needs more than polite suggestion. She is filling the role of the junior member. She'll modify as she climbs up the ladder, hopefully not totally selling out.
Compare her with her contemporaries like Greene. Madge added the middle name so she could be like AOC. She is considered the extreme of her party. Which one would you trust or expect to alter her stance to make sure something important to the most people in the country passed through? In other words, which is actually working for the people, and not her party or power? Which one actually seems intelligent enough to be competent at her job, ie making sure her tweets aren't ridiculous, going back to meet with her constituents?
It's the D members of Congress like her who could have made a difference in the election by adding that humanist, progressive, populist veneer to the establishment captured DNC.
I hope she, and other younger, sharp Ds, get more chances to add their ideas to D policies.

the dems have become a paler shade of red. they have been moving in that direction for years. culminating in some unions not supporting the dems at the last poll. not bc the leadership didn’t want to, but bc the membership said nup. they have lost the workers and it will take true believers like aoc and bernie to win them back

"We kill at every step, not only in wars, riots and executions. We kill when we close our eyes to poverty, suffering and shame.

~ Hermann Hesse

oh, and jasmine crockett too.

y e s

and elizabeth warren

reactionaries worldwide loathe community health care. they are all about enriching private health providers.

if only more dems had bernie’s fortitude, sense of humanity and will to do the right thing.

a party lacking direction has people who can provide it. aoc is one. bernie is another. no more pallid shade of red.

I think technically Bernie is an independent isn't he? Just has tried to run for the Democratic nomination a few times. He's much more progressive than the Democrat party for the most part.

alexandria has also said something like she has one foot in the dems camp and one outside. but they remain dem members.

“It should come as no great surprise that a Democratic Party which has abandoned working class people would find that the working class has abandoned them” Bernie Sanders

the dems need to return to their working-class egalitarian roots. david brooks the respected conservative journo said recently his party has politically become little more than leftist bashers.

it’s time the left took ‘em on.

AOC said a while back that her and Biden shouldn't be in the same political party, the Democrats cast such a broad net so as to be meaningless and non-representative of a lot of people.

(FWIW so do the Republicans).

A two-party duopoly like they have means a lot of people simply aren't represented at all.

she won't leave the dems. nor will sanders. as you suggest there's no place for independents in the american electoral system at present. their power is to push for a change of direction via people power. there are others like warren and buttigieg who are aboard the same bus.

Just before the topic at hand - how are these 2 - at least - defined as a pallid shade of red? I see PiCkLeJuiCe use it and even Not Important use pallid shade

Given that the commentary has always been that the Dems are just left of the LNP here?

On AOC and Bernie

I do like AOC and her voice - I would like to see here go as far as she can. I am hopeful she is used in some meaningful way in the future

Bernie - I was against Bernie due to the same issues I had/have with Biden and Trump - age

But credit to Bernie his marbles are all in the same bag as when he was a kid so thats a giant leap forward from the other 2

I do like the idea of getting traction on the socials because I dont see many others. Chris Murphy is doing it quietly but the leadership seems to be in stunned silence.

What are they waiting for? I know that its not a true oppositional party over there where a leadership structure brings a message but for gods sake stand up to whats going on

let’s look at climate change. i quote polly hemming from the austalia institute’s climate and energy program:

“ the u.s government has been a huge obstructive force for decades. there’s just the pretence that it was better under biden. actually, it wasn’t. there was still oil and gas being dug up and pumped out more than ever”

the emissions trajectory has been similar no matter which party held the reins.

the policy relating to israel and the lack of real concern for the palestinians has been almost indistinguishable. in fact, it was obama who had carriage of the last multi-billion dollar handout to israel.

there is a view harris’s weakness on that matter cost her a lot of support.

the dems talk a big game about guns but their only big ticket difference is high-powered rifles.

the dems are no more inclined to regulate wall street or the banks than the republicans.

both parties are beholden to big business and powerful lobby groups. one of the many impressive things about aoc is she accepts no money from big business and refuses to meet lobbyists.

the disparity between the uber-rich and the poor is greater than ever. the clinton, obama, and biden administrations were as impotent as the republicans in addressing it.

They're the controlled opposition within the party, Bernie was cut when he would have won all three elections is a blatant sign

Harris bringing up the Cheney's support as some kind of badge of honour is hilariously bad. neocon paradise

We have seen a reorder of the US elite, RFK and Tulsi joining Trump is also a sign

at last, the dems are showing some backbone. well, at least some.

The Democratic establishment look like controlled opposition.

I hate Hakeem Jeffries
I hate Chuck schumer

I hate these ****wits, I think firebombing the DNC would be a positive step.

So either the Dems are controlled opposition or full of gutless cowards who want someone else to do the hard work of taking the fight to trump and maga.

There is a wide open lane for a progressive left movement, need more than just AOC and Bernie doing it.

bernie on trump’s lies in the state of the union address and the media’s complicity

“Trump has been very effective in creating what I would call a parallel universe for his supporters a set of ideas that either have no basis in reality or in the great scheme of things are nowhere near the most important concerns of the American people and one way that he does that is through the concept of the big lie. And boy did we hear that tonight. You say something that is grossly false say it over and over again and have right-wing social media blasted it out endless times until people actually believe it......

Let me just give you a very few examples. Trump claimed that the 2020 election was stolen from him and that he won by a landslide remember - a lie. Trump claimed that the January 6th Insurrection was a Day of Love - a lie. Trump has claimed that millions of undocumented people voted and do vote in American elections - a lie. Trump has claimed that climate change is a hoax originating in China - a lie . Trump has claimed that Ukraine started the horrific war with Russia - a lie. And tonight just tonight Trump claimed that millions of dead people ... were collecting Social Security checks and that is an outrageous lie intended to lay the groundwork for cuts to Social Security.....

Trump was inaugurated for a second term as president just six weeks ago standing right behind them were the three wealthiest men in this country Mr Musk, Mr Bezos and Mr Zuckerberg. And standing behind them were 13 other billionaires who Trump had nominated to head major government agencies, many of these same billionaires, including Musk were in the capital tonight listening to that speech. In other words, it is there for all to see, the Trump Administration is not hiding it, the Trump Administration is a government of the billionaire class by the billionaire class and for the billionaire class....”

Yes, they have endless amounts of money. Yes, they control our economy and they own much of the media and they have enormous influence over our political system. But from the bottom of my heart, I am convinced that they can be beaten if we stand together and not let them divide us up by the colour of our skin or where we were born or our religion or the language we speak or our sexual orientation if we bring our people together around an agenda that works for the many and not just a few...

You guys want progressive but I bet lots of you oppose this. Not sure if Dutton would say the same.
