I think Apeness refers to those "extra blokes" (ie small defenders) as speed bumps. They could actually help him in two ways: (a) as a human step ladder; or (b) as spongy rail guards like in bumper bowling to keep him heading in the right direction.

Pack marking's not exactly foreign to him: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2013-07-15/draft-prospect-michael-apeness ~1:30 in against WA is one of my favs.

Notice who he marked it against? Hopefully they will be playing together next year.

Next year, this is what I would do. Apeness is a power forward. Relies on his strength more than anything to win contests. FF is best suited to him. Tabs is more of a runner like Riewoldt, so CHF for him.

I'd be playing him at full forward with nobody else in purple within 35m of him, let him clunk a high ball, pressure the contest with extra blokes.

This will only work if we don't play our usual loose man back allowing the Eagles an extra to double team him.

On Saturday he only became effective after he was isolated one-out, then he monstered his man. Prior to that he was largely ineffective and spent a lot of time crashing packs including our own forwards and ruckmen.

Yeah they generally do a good job with it, hopefully us losing a derby = a langdon signature, more likely to be a barlow one which I'll take aswell (I will also take a winning derby)

He's been taking similar grabs at Peel before he busted his collar bone. Hopefully he gets 3 or 4 weeks in a row in the ones.
