I need to apologise to a few players that at the start of trade period last year i wanted out of the club, but not have they only proved their worth but well out done that and become elite and recoginsed players in the AFL. 1- Jason Winderlich- Is he the most improved player in the competition this year? Looks like every week he has something to play for and to prove, one image that just keeps coming back to me is the picture of him running sprints after last years close lose to Richmond were he failed to follow his man which ended in Richmond goal and the win. This just plainly out linesthe desire and commitment of the lad, dont know about you but i think there a bigger things awaiting him.

2- Paddy Ryder- Didnt want him gone but i didnt think he was up to it for a number 7 draft pick he didnt seem to fit in anywhere, now he fits in everywhere back forward or ruck which is invaluable, his first game this season against crows was amazing and signaled his arrival.

3- Damien Peverill- Just been waiting for him to falter so i have a case against trading him but he has converted me to thinking that the ugly little rookie he was still has the heart and passion to contribute to the EFC. His first and second efforts are countless, diposal is bad at times but forgivable because no one means to stuff a kick or a handball reality is he is out there having a go for his team mates and us fans.

4- Mark Johnson- Plenty probably still want him out, but after his last month it is hard to have evidence to rid of one Essendon's greatest stallwarts, he is a tryer and goes hard, 20 plus possies and 3 goals against crows further evidence he is here to stay.

5- Andrew Welsh- Have realised he was probably made to play a role last year he didnt neccessairly like or was suited for but becasue of our run with injury was forced to, and with no Lloyd up forward he kicked sideways and backwards because he had no confidence in the people up the ground, now he has direction, he goes the goals himself and is a great worker

Glad we kept all and i like to public apologise to all 5, keep proving me worng please cause its a plesure to watch all of you. ( Not like there going to read this but anyway)

At least you have the guts to admit it. Good on you :thumbsu:

I for one am sick of the number of ongoing threads that whine and moan about this or that player not contributing. I think that too often we use one bad season as an excuse to hammer players, not taking into consideration the range of other issues that might detract from their ability to focus and put in throughout a season.

Players have injuries, personal and family issues, and the need of time to grow in their craft just like anyone else. I've never doubted Welsh or MJ, was always hoping Winders would come on strong, had to wait for Paddy Ryder and as for Pev... well, shouldn't his first couple of years been an indicator to folk that he was always going to be dependable, if not particularly flashy?

The next lot we need to show patience for are Gus Monfries, Kepler Bradly, and Courtney Johns. Rather than calling for young players heads, perhaps we could also give them a bit of time to develop and proove themselves?

Sorry to Mark Bolton. I keep saying that you don't add any value to our list, and year after year you prove me wrong. You are clearly the best match up for Adam Goodes.

I'm sorry Welsh and Winderlich for knocking you last season, both have been fantastic and really grown in your roles, winderlich's skill especially pleasing to see him hit targets on the run. welsh is turning into a mr fix it who can play anywhere.

Monfries should be sorry for not taking the next step, I think we all had him as an integral part of our midfield but hasnt taken the next step - YET - I will perservere for at least another season.

I apologize to Winders - I doubted he had the potential to become one of the leagues better mid-fielders. I thought he was going to be inconsistent at best. Now when he's not in the side, it's really noticeable.

I also apologize to Paddy Ryder. While I didn't doubt he'd be a decent player in the longer term, I didn't expect him to rise so quickly. Back in January I was expecting him to play for Bendigo most weeks.
