The average height of our draftees was 189cm.

That's a bit over 6 foot 2 in the old scale. The bloke that wrote that is probably 5'7 and fat.

that bloke is right to ignore kpps altogether imo is unforgivable.
imo we are putting all our eggs in the all our tall draftees will make it basket which is folly.
i can think of 3 talls who need to be gone and there are several who are 50/50 at best atm. we are forever in the cycle of having to find kpps who are good enough.

Santa been a long time since a side won a granny with two or more dominant KPP, Jacks is as good a KP deep forward that has entered the AFL for some time . We have to many short people who are just players , a couple admittedly were given a crack last season in Webberly , Nason and Hicks but when you add them to the remaining short people in Nahas , White and King who are just players and the gamble on Roberts, it restricts our ability to add project KPP's. We realistically should have axed at least 2 of these, allowing the punt on a project KPP and an untried middle to young aged mid . With the expectation the project KPP could provide some releif , it would also mean that the mature aged selection we are going to use on Miller could have been used on player Like a J-Pod who hasn't been opportunities !!

I don't rate Roughhead as a dominant forward !!
Brereton and Dunstall yes Buddy yes Roughhead definitely not !!
Solid forward then.
He was a good solid forward that year.
Although you must agree that that year he had a dominant year - didn't he kick 60-something goals? I vaguely remembering him having a dominant year. I don't rate him much but he had a good year.

Ashley Hansan once had a good year when he was a solid forward , yet when he has been asked to step up when the club needs good players to stand up he like Roughhead have gone missing !!
Both on form in non dominate sides would not be in their sides best 22 , bookmark this , if Hawthorn has a below expectation season in 2011 the ' Named Appropriately ' may be having a run in the outer suburbs, and well and truly be up for trade , hardly a dominant forward !

They did not ignore KPPs.

They wanted Darling or Lycett at 30 but both were gone by then.
Jackson said this after the draft.

Blair Hartly has said he believes that generally you draft for talent and trade for needs.

So it seems, once the two talls they had bookmarked were gone they took who they believe was the next best pick regardless of size.

The big fella Derickx has played forward as well as ruck.
He seems to have the agility to play CHF

I guess our pick 30 - Batchelor and the players that just went after it will be the real test of this draft for us.

Any KPF we picked would have been backup for Griffiths - who the Club rate highly.

If Griffiths or Roo goes down then we have a problem. If not we are all good. (suppose that is why they want Miller)

I like Asthbury in defence, I think Grimes will be good when he fills out in defence and I still think Post will be a player - Like a lot of talls he's a late bloomer and he could be a very handy swingman.

Given we have Vickery who can play forward and our speculative new ruck recruit as well - we're not too badly placed for KP's.

From who we have drafted, you would have to think the following players will have to fight hard for their spots - White, Webberly, Graham, Nason, Nahas, Farmer.

Add Tuck , Jackson , Houli , Grigg , Edwards, Thursty, McGaunne and Moore also to that list of those fighting for a spot , finally we have competition for a spot !!

It was hard to tell from the coverage - had sen on radio and fox on tv (shocker of a coverage again) , but it seemed our picks were without hesitation. They didn't seem to contemplate McCartney or Mitchell over Batchelor.
After 30 it was a lottery anyway and I doubt anything other than specific picks were going to fall through.

You'd think that Tuck & Thirsty are going to struggle, but yep we're starting to get that competition. It's going to be an interesting year to say the least for our list.

...thats old news and i think he would have been referring to that hairy old hobbit jordy mcmahon...
...whenever hobbit jordy mcmahon went missing or disappeared on the footy field it was because jordy was polishing his magic ring on his middle finger...
...apparently hobbit jordy was so clever at doing that, that terry 'gandaff' wallace never ever noticed it...

Spluff's point was, that Roughhead and Buddy both had standout years WHEN they won the premiership. What Roughy has done since is irrelevant to their premiership year.

I don't think we lack proven KPFs at the moment, we just lack proven forwards. Then a lot of people will argue that it's hard for forwards to prove themselves if the ball aint getting in there (effectively at least). So we have spent two trade/draft periods addressing that. At the same time, we have kept an eye on the KPP stocks as well.

Look at most of the teams that have the premiership. Most of them had an elite midfield with a B grade forward line. We won the Coleman medal this year and we finished second last.

So in conclusion: Elite midfield/B grade forward line > B grade midfield/A grade forward line.

It is a bit harsh including Moore and Jackson in that group.
Moore had great years in 08 and 10 and carried a stuffed shoulder for most of 09.
As for Jackson, he is the first decent stopper we have had at Tigerland since Chris Bond left.... Too many posters on here judge Jackson on what he does (and yes he makes some mistakes) when he should be judged on how little his direct opponent does from week to week.
He is one of the 5 most important players on our list!!!

im sick of all these muppets who have no idea about the player we draft writing to the herald sun, the age and other newspapers or websites slamming the clubs selections. in 6 months time they will be singing their praises.

Are we truly getting angry at some numpty that has sent a letter to what looks like the 50/50 column? Gotta love the ferrals.
