mac is garbage unless you do not use the computer much and enjoy simplicity.

Your generalisation is laughable. I work in an industry with people who do film editing and effects, sound and graphic design, and I'd say that Macs are used almost exclusively. Anything to do with CGI or Flame or Protools is done on Macs. I haven't been in a studio of any significance where CS5 and the like was being used and they weren't on Macs etc etc.

Exactly. You are spot on.

But those professions are the only cases where people should use Mac's. For casual and home users, PC's are a much cheaper and better option.

I confess to knowing very little about computers, even though I spend half my life on them, particularly the PCs at work.

But I don't need to know crap about computers because I can do stuff like make music and make and edit films with only a base level of technical knowledge.

It's plug and play. Simple. I don't need to know stuff. The Mac just does it.

You just reminded me of this: One thing PC users can do that Mac users can't. Always makes me titter!

I built my own pc for ~500 dollars last year. I am running XP (pirated), Mac OSX leopard (also pirated), and linux in tandem. I don't see what all of the commotion is about when you can have both! Just takes a bit of nous & work.

FWIW I use my mac partition only for garageband and mainly for novelty as connecting to the internet can be troublesome and faulty. All in all, if you know what the hell you are doing, PCs are quicker, less cushioney (i dont know how to explain it, you cant get to the nitty gritty of a mac as easily as you can a PC) and cost less in the long run.

How do you mean 'should'?

I use a Mac at home because I prefer it for a number of reasons. Why should I use a PC? Because it's cheaper, and you assume it's a better option for every non-industry professional user? You're making massive assumptions in that statement.

If you aren't squirmy about opening up your pc/editing registry/etc then PC's by the length of the straight. Most problems I have I can fix easily myself and the flexibility of a PC motherboard appeals to me more than a fixed mac computer. That being said, if i just wanted something that works without any fuss then go mac all the way.

each to their own i guess.

Why don't people understand that you can simply build your own computer and run a Mac operating system on it? It saves you money, it means you can have a much MUCH more powerful machine, you can upgrade parts as you see fit (OS hdd, GPU, RAM, etc...) and it gives you the option to swap to another operating system whenever you wish.

Macs are just inferior innards wrapped in a tacky white shell which increases the price by a ridiculous amount.

Do you dual boot on a Mac machine or a PC machine?

I have a Mac

Being relatively mature (i.e. old), I have owned a large number of computers, both PC and Apple/Mac (including an original Mac - I wish I'd kept that one) and some others (an Amiga, a Commodore 64 and even a Vic20 with a cassette tape drive).

I had plenty of issues with my PC's, but enjoyed playing around with them and fixing them when I had time (i.e. when I was a student). Now that I am busier and want reliability without wasted time fixing problems, I wouldn't use anything but a Mac.

When I owned a PC, I essentially expected to have to reformat the hard-drive every 6-9 months and reload all of my data/programs due to progressive deterioration/virus infestation. No such problems using Mac OS.

I'm scared of change.

Mac's are change

I'm also scared of one button mice.

Also who just takes one bite of an apple and leaves it?

Care to apply the same logic to Hyundais and Ferraris, Hank.

Not really a fair comparison Grizz.

A Fezza doesn't have the same engine as a Dai does.

Infact in alot of cases, the hardware in the Mac is older than a new PC.

Take the 13" Macbook Pro for example. Still running C2D processors

Most new PC laptops are now running the Core series processors.

BTW, nice to see Apple has seen the light and moved to PC hardware. Just a shame they charge the consumer twice the price of the equiv PC.

On well....

Macs and PC's are competing products.

Hyundais and Ferrari's are not.

The point is that popularity doesn't necessarily equate to something being better.

when u talk mac, you're really talking osx... the hardware is basically the same shit since they went to an x86 architecture.

osx is just another posix compliant linux variant with a pretty shell but you have the power of a bsd based os if you want to use it. osx hides the complexity well though.

in terms of a gui, i find windows 7 well ahead of osx.

computer noobs should go for windows. cheaper hardware, more software, can run more games, easier to upgrade hardware etc.

you're also not locked in to the apple/jobs' philosophy. eg, jobs doesn't want you to have a blu-ray player so you can buy more shit from itunes.

Got my first Mac in December, I love it and wont be going back to Windows anytime soon.

I have 3 computers I use daily.
One for work, which is a dell, piece of crap, always slow and problematic.
The desktop at home is a handmade windows xp, 5 years old. upgraded ram. no probs with it,

but my baby is my mac laptop. awesome , I am in love. had it a year, and its so easy to use, its a dream.

When I change the desktop at home ,will be buying a mac.

My only dislike is the screen size on the laptop, I love bigger, but hey its a small price.

and no probs with wireless internet for me, I take this everywhere remotely in Australia.

It's a marketing ploy used by Apple to entice and appeal to society's 'rebellious' side. Reminiscent of Adam taking a bite of the apple out of the Garden of Eden; the half bitten apple is subconsciously linked to this event, tempting those to defy the 'mainstream' and purchase an apple product.

Or someone biting an apple only to find worms inside and realising that the apple is shit, just like Apple computers. :D
