2020 is our crunch year for contract expiries. Do you know who is in line for an early extension? I know we've started early talks with WHE, Crisp and Phillips.

Grundy would be the big one they want to square away.

The footage the club posted on Instagram on Monday. He looked a lot thicker through the glutes and abdomen which is why I posted a link to a comparison of his 2016 start to pre-season conditioning.

On the basis of the insta post from Jen Bryza was about right that he’d sit around 10%. I’m more likely to trust footage than pics, it’s around where JDG would sit and not where I’d like him to sit (8%), but his conditioning is nowhere near where I had him pegged based on the footage. Being proven wrong is great news from my perspective because it increases the likelihood he gets through pre-season which in turn increases his chances of playing 15+ games in 2019.

Although I’m confused by where the unfit suggestion came from?

I’m glad at least one person got my angle :thumbsu:
It was the sitting around playing Fortnite comment that made me think you thought he wasn’t working hard enough, and therefore not fit enough. Of course we all hope he’s on track for round 1. Good news.

If this is unfit I have a serious problem.
The only reason you’re not 100% pristine is the bending the arm amber fluid intake.

I’d take your 95% fitness for that :D

Unsure playing fortnite means unfit.

Just a hobby of the young.

I was pretty late to arrive today.
1st-4th year players trained for at least 45mins longer than the veterans. It was pretty debilitating for the players in that heat.
Interesting to see Mihocek and Roughead each completing the full session though.

Atu and Quaynor pulled off about the time of the 'veterans'. IQ appeared to have family present to watch.
Will Kelly is expected to train before Christmas. He had been playing for the final 5-6 weeks of the TAC season with a broken foot. I suspect he'll be eased in next year across the season in any case as a young KPP.
Club pretty happy to have secured 2 x first round draftees in their list opinion. Kelly's rank on our draft list was inside 20 I believe.

I didn't notice Tohill so much today. Keane's a good size, as some of us have noted before. I think he looks pretty natural with his kicking too, unlike Cox, where his kicking seems so foreign still (and will remain so).

Murphy and Appleby were both pushing hard. They've been pitted against each other quite a bit this pre-season. Appleby the stronger of the two and probably on balance a little fitter at present, although the heat is probably not that suitable for someone of Murphy's complexion. Both amongst the fittest of the younger crew.

Dunn's recovery has plateaued a bit, which is typical of ACL's. Was probably working a bit harder 4 weeks ago than currently. He'll lift intensity in the new year. Perhaps Roughead's present will prove more valuable in the early season than many of us thought. He's certainly putting the work in and attacking things with vigour given a fresh start.

Expect more signings before Christmas as we stretch out our contract expiry dates to avoid the rush of contracts hitting a single year like 2018 (29). I note that Hawthorn face 29 players out of contract for 2019 at present.

The cafe was welcome relief afterward. Air conditioning and some pretty healthy meals on offer.

Whats the GO with Wells? been a no show the last few weeks.

I would be shocked if Grundy and his manager open up contract talks early. I think they'd be looking to extend the contracts of our other best 22 players now so we don't have to worry about them being squeezed out when Grundy and JDG demand the big bucks in 2020.

I thought he had been spotted but primarily working inside in the gym. Jen2310?
That's my assumption, as I have seen him briefly. He would come outside and watch the boys from the sidelines and then go back inside. I assume he is on a modified program until after christmas like a few others.

We had 29 players come due in 2018. Of these, I gather only Langdon and Thomas may have been signed to anything beyond 2 years.
That does leave a lot of players due in 2020. My sense was 3-4 will be done by Xmas. I had read Steele was being extended in addition to those earlier named. Sorry, but I don't have specifics and wouldn't request them as that starts to become a bit personal.

He was at the club yesterday in his singlet. I missed the senior guys training though, so can't comment if he was amongst it or not. Cursory glance I made seemed to suggest he is in reasonable shape. There are quite a few who are not that active at present - Dunn, Greenwood, Crisp etc

Thanks for the training updates Albert. They're an oasis in an otherwise dull pre-season and I really appreciate the effort you and the other training watchers go to share with everyone. I wouldn't expect you to ask those kind of personal questions. I was just commenting on who I think the club sees as priority number 1. Number 2 would be JDG. I hope we see an early announcement on those two although the agents may have a different idea about it all.

+ Sier if our cunning plan works, the one where he comes to dominate the AFL.:D
Sier is a required signing this year anyway, hence why I left him out, as opposed to Grundy and JDG who are ooc in 2020.

Ah k, cheers, didn't see those comments only saw the ones that said they hadn't seen him.

Family day is Wednesday but I suspect there will be training on Monday also. Can anybody confirm please?
Surely they won’t have a family day until the school holidays start.

We haven't had Family day in years. Wed is just open training. And I assume there will be training Monday. I'm gonna go down and check it out.
The open training will be both men’s and women’s squads training together.

And the not so young!

I don't play Fortnite but I do love gaming. Red Dead Redemption 2 has sucked up the very small amount of recreational time I have right now.

You're absolutely right, it has zero reflection on work rate. It's a bit like saying a player was reading a book or watching a movie, therefore they don't train hard enough.
