there is a lot of debate about this... but there is not any substantial proof that it was played by the aboriginals. Geoffrey Blainey, regarded as one of Australua's best historians agrees, and says that it is most likely to have been influenced by the different versions of ball sports played in the 1850s in england. he says it was based on english ball games (most notably rugby, but each school had their own variations), not aboriginals.Don't get too carried away mate, might have been the first official game but the Indigenous kids played it for a long time before that. However, I agree that judd magic is a tool. Gives very little helpful insight into anything.
Also, although the actual first game wasnt played b/n mgs and scotch ( it was the first 'recorded' game, with the first game being played between mgs and st kilda grammar) I just wanted to give mgs and scotch a plug before the big game on saturday. Great to be returning to the MGS main instead of flack park as well.
