Does anyone know if the Channel 9/10/Foxtel consortium will be able to access the Channel Rex archives of VFL/AFL footy?

I would be keen to see some of the old Roys games again, and if Foxtel have to fill 24 hours a day of programming there would have to be some chance we would feature somewhere.

Channel Nine should/would have its own VFL archive
from the '60s if they haven't wiped the tapes.

I've wondered this myself Rabs.

I also suggested on here at one stage, that perhaps a TV channel could have an allotted timeslot each week to showing a "classic" game from the past. I reckon it'd rate pretty well.

Would be an ideal world if Channel Rex let Kerry's mates have footage but only on his death bed, the footage Channel 9 had was mostly wiped, same as for Channel 10/0, Stephen Phillips tried to get footage for a video he was doing in 1999, he in fact got more from the regional stations like GLV10 Sunraysia TV etc and the best of all was a small TV station in the Nullabor that had footage going back to the 50's.
Stephen actually has lots of footage of teams so if someone contacts him wherever he is Channels 7/9/10, and Australian Football Archives who released those videos from the early 1900's to the 1990's, have lots of good footage that they often release videos only through their shop in Sth Melbourne or someone contact Col Hutchinson @ the AFL to find more hidden videos etc.

Who owns the footage? Surley the AFL own the rights to the footage therefore when they sell the rights all past footage would go with it. This would seem common sense but hey common sense and AFL dont go hand in hand. I hope this is the case as one of the reasons I am getting the Foxtel footy channel is so I can watch all the old games of the glory days of football and relive my Fitzroy memories.

i actually heard gerard healy say that some of the old archives were lost in a fire when stuff was in storage
