Look, with the supplements saga behind them, I completely agree Essendon will be the breakout side in 2016.

Sorry, got my years mixed up.

2017.

I mean, just look at some of the names on their list for 2018. Hooker, Fantasia, McDonald-Tipungwuti, Daniher. Clearly the sleeping giants.

And with the list that Dodoro has pulled together in 2019, no reason they can't go all the way!

And they'll bounce right back in 2020!

Okay, that was a pandemic season. Doesn't count. 2021.

Yeah, there were still lockdowns. 2022.

Clearly a flag favourite for 2023.

Sorry, I just keep getting my years mixed up.

Seems I keep confusing which of the seasons where the Essendon faithful, whether it's in person or on BigFooty or in the media, spend the first half of the year hyping the Bombers to the moon.

And despite all that hoopla, they end the year still not having won a final since Sheedy was in the coaches box.

That being said, just look at the start they made in 2024. Top four for sure.

Right?

We're tipped by many to finish bottom 4. Best we can hope for is a year like last year.

I don't see us making the top 8 and I'd rather we don't until we're ready to win a final. Better to focus on the draft to build a list capable of sustained success.
True, but you need to capitalise while the likes of Merrett and Shiel are prime movers.

Wow, the overconfidence of Essendon fans in this thread astonishes me....particularly given the last 21 years
lucky for you most of the people talking essendon up aren't essendon fans 🤷‍♂️

No. They have been asleep since 5th September 2004.

7480 days and counting.

Seriously though, they don't have the primary list, nor the depth, to be in finals calculation for 2025.
Could be in calculations, but odds would be not making finals, and not almost certain to not do anything if they do make it.
But they might embarrass a couple of sides (not just Richmond and North) along the way. The sort of team that could beat the Cats and then lose to West Coast with nothing obvious to explain either.

So business as usual you're saying?

Well you've posted the sleeping giant thread so now it's not gonna happen

Don't know about that.

Essendon are a big club.

And have been asleep for a very long time.

Its just no-one knows when they will actually wake the hell up!

I guess that's true enough. Maybe a bit more chance of beating top sides than previously, but could easily crash to Richmond twice.
Essendon and Melbourne look set to be in this category, though Melbourne's top end talent is stronger and if the Dees actually play as a team (very doubtful given how many seemed to want out) maybe they could be good-ish.
