Nothing wrong with Talking Heads or The Ramones. Don't know about Genesis though - as soon as Peter Gabriel left them the dodginess started to creep in.

I agree there.

There's probably two different perceptions of Genesis and the better known one is as you refered to it, is the later dodgier incarnation.

And it's hard to knock the Ramones when they never pretended to be anything they weren't.

I think iv'e presented valid points as to why i think their hype isn't always deserved.

But you've presented valid points that apply to all bands. All bands have an array of "filler" songs on their albums. Very few people can do a Boz Scaggs and produce multiple hits on the one album and Boz could only do it once. I think their hype is warranted although I do agree that Plant's voice can wear thin after a while.

We agree here. They got my respect when they came out and actually admitted they couldn't play. Mind you there was no point them saying anything but.
