They look like teenage girls rather then apes. Busted. In Greek mythos however, the Sirens & their song were portrayed as dangerous & seductive, leading ships & sailors to their doom....Odysseus in the Odyssey being the arch exemplar thereof.

The Aquatic Ape theory has nothing to do with mermaids . The aquatic Ape theory presents an intriguing model for how human bi-pedalism (and a few other rather specialised adaptations) may have arisen. We don't know for sure how things like, lack of hair, pronounced noses, large brains, hymens etc may have evolved - the aquatic ape conjesture provides a possible solution to these and others.
At this stage we don't know with any great confidence which of the many competing hypotheses for these traits are likely to be correct. It's a good discussion.
Mermaids however - no. Just an early sailors version of 'The women in this foreign port are real goers - but dangerous'.
The thread premise was aimed at some of the lunacy pumped out over the net.Sure....The Darwinian approach, as stated.
The thread premise does however set the tone for the Mermaid argument as being encapsulated within the thesis.
Did you somehow miss that?
The thread premise was aimed at some of the lunacy pumped out over the net.
The aquatic ape there is a good read and based on good science. The fact that it hasn't been discussed more highlights many of the flaws in the establishment, which is the purpose of this board
Not my theoryI give about as much credence to Darwinian theory, as I do the notion of Mermaids being empirically real beings....At least Mermaids have An Archetypal basis in the human imagination & Are strewn throughout human folklore, in one guise or Another.
As to the Establishment & their cultural hegemony....Well, that's a whole other argument altogether.
I'll leave you to your Aquatic ape theory, mermaid free.
