700 000 day passes have been sold for the paralympics, id say about 40-50 % of people just feel sorry for the athletes. This lady on SBS said the same last night.

Dont get me wrong, i think its grat how theyve got them, and it gives disabled people the chance of olympic glory, but....

Sorry I got you wrong... you facken idiot...

No, people want to see athletes with more fortitude and courage than half of the atheletes that competed at the other Olympics.

I'd agree that people want to see athletes who are in the sport for the sport itself, rather than simply for the money.

Don't forget that the lives of a fair proportion of the population are affected in some way by disablity - themselves, family or friends.

crowz4eva - Maybe they are buying tickets because they want to see the paralympians do well and enjoy watching sport?

I seriously doubt people have to buy sympathy tickets for them.

C4E- you are an idiot! Seriously how stupid are you???? People would be buying tickets so they can watch the Paralympics! Why would they buy the tickets because they feel sorry for them? Alot of $ to spend just because you feel sorry for people! I could ask the same question about the Crows.... LOL.

If you dont want to buy a ticket then DON'T!

This is one shit thread!

Sorry folks but the Paralympics as a 'sporting' event is a joke.

Not becuase of the athletes themselves but how being a 'paralympian' is defined.

Read the story about the young SA girl in the paper the other day - star netballer, so good infact that offered position at the AIS in Canberra. She get's to Canberra and finds out she has some slight muscle deformation (she didn't even know about) and becomes eligable to compete in the Paralympics. Breaks world records, trashes competition but if she hadn't been tested at the AIS she wouldn't have known. That folks is a joke boarding on farcical. Demeans the Paralympics no end.

Why would someone spend money to go and feel pity for somebody else.

All people who buy tickets to the paralympics want to see athletes perform at their best in their chosen dicipline.

The TV coverage is doing a major disservice to the paralympics, unfortunately TV execs. have a very poor opinion of the paralympics therefore giving the wider community almost no chance of seeing these athletes perform.
