I was just thinking are Sandringham too good for our own good? Would we be better if our young players had to work harder rather than just enjoy the success they get with Sandy. If Newton was playing full forward instead of Sauntner, Buckley had to step up in the middle instead of Liddell and Ferguson and Warnock were getting the big jobs instead of Lamb and Biddlecombe would they be better prepared for AFL.

Just a thought.

Re: Are Sandringham too good

it is true that sandringham are to good but they where VERY lucky today

was anyone else at the game today?

Re: Are Sandringham too good

Well we could relocate to a country town and then get the same rules as Geelong maybe somewhere like Ballarat, we might get more than 16,000 then.

Wait for the "once a year" fans to roll out for Queen's Birthday. Those of us who showed up today deserve a medal for bothering to make an appearance despite the 99.9% chance of a hiding. Those who jumped off just because we're losing can stay out as far as I'm concerned - death to the glory hunters.

I don't think Sandy are too good.

It's important that young players can enter a system with a successful culture. A system/team that expects your best and won't accept anything less. That, sandy have. The only problem is when they make the move to Melbourne, they're greeted with a culture that embraces mediocrity, cheap possessions, hospital disposals, and unaccountability.

The problem with Sandy is not that they are too good, but the fact is the Demons players don't have a regular impact on their results. Players like Gallagher, Valenti, Liddell, Biddlescombe are regularly in the best whereas the Dees players don't do enough. Also the obvious one of Sautner being a regular goalkicker as well. This isn't the fault of Sandy, but the dees players need to step up and dominate at VFL level.

But obviously the Sandringham players are far better than the VFL-listed players from other clubs. Three flags in a row, and already top of the ladder again this year. It's not because we have really great depth (decent but not great) but because Sandringham have a really strong core group.

This means that it is harder for a young MFC player to stand out in a strong, experienced Sandringham than it is for a young Collingwood player to stand out at Williamstown, or a young Saint to stand out at Casey.

Of course, the benefit is that our young players are working in a successful environment which will hopefully rub off on to them one day.
