...during the middle of the season ??

I ask this because ive just heard a snippet on 882 about collingwood and fat eddie offering the Juddster an offer he cant refuse.

I was under the impression that this type of conversing with players during the season was not on ? - or does this not apply to eddie.

I have just started to feel comfy on the fact that Juddy will stay at the eagles as we are obviously a club on the way up and also financially viable.

I'd rather lose to freo in a GF than to lose Juddy to that fat gimp eddie !!

If it were the case, Id have to ask, Where is the money coming from?

Surely a side like Collingwood who played in a grand final and just took on Woewoedin would have to be forking out big $ to retain a lot of their players.

They have a habbit of stealing people from our club. They wont take Juddy though, the club know how important he is and they will match collingwoods offer. Plus theres more than just money to it, Judd will obviousley look at the clubs future, its playing lists. I would say we have the better list and the better future out of the two clubs. Plus Perth is a much nicer city than Melbourne! Im sure we'll find away to keep him!

Im a little worried now...as far as I know it is illegal to talk to court players in the middle of a season but Eddie seems to do what he likes so this is certainly not good news. Let's hope Judd can see which club is going places.

If Judd HAS to go, then I'd rather it be to anyone than Collingwood because they are just a bunch of sneaky f-cks!

But as you say, there is no way Collingwood can afford this - they are a grand final team, just signed Woewodin (who admittedly is being paid a fair bit still from Melbourne) and a number of their players will be looking for pay rises.

Anything they can offer, we can offer more.

Besides, there is no way for him to get to Collingwood unless we agree to trade him there [which we won't] or they finish last.

Who says he even wants to come home to Victoria? All things i see point to the fact that he is VERY happy in WA. He seems to be good mates with the other players and were becoming a good team so Im sure that Judd would keep all that in mind! Doesnt he absolutely love surfing? He couldnt be in a better place for that either!

I reckon If the VIc clubs try to snake Juddy from us we shuodl get every eagles perosn we can to put in 50 bucks or 100 bucks (I'm sure we could get together a heap of money - throw in the occasion chardonnay sipper ;) who can fork out a grand :p) and offer it to Juddy as "supporter pay" which wouldn't go under the cap.

Surely no less illegal than trying to sway people to move clubs in the middleo of a season :p

I have a $2500 saved up, I would gladly give it to the club if it meant keeping Juddy at the club!

If thats true. We'll be alright. Our club have alot more going for it than Collingwood or any other Victorian club. Besides Perth is a much nicer city than Melbourne is!

true, but that depends on how much money it is??

A person can have loyalty to a club, especially as Judd hasn't been a supporter of the club since he was boy.

Don't worry - he'll stay. I have a gut feeling about this. I remember with the Malthouse saga, I wasn't confident about it, and I was more just reassuring myself that he wasn't going to quit on the club.

But with Judd I am very confident he'll stay on.

His family and friends being in Melbourne has nothing to do with it.

Of course not, cause Judd loves surfing, and Perth is the only city in Australia that has beaches

Stay or go, WC win either way. If Collingwood makes the best trade offer, by all means accept it (assuming Judd wants to go). Collingwood can court him as much as they like, end of the day their offer has to be more attractive than that of 9 other clubs.

OK, done. Carlton it is, then. We don't have a first-round pick this year, but will you take an IOU from John Elliott? :D
Might be time to introduce a system of trading future draft picks

I'd be happy with your first picks in 2004 & 2005 :D

I think I'd rather take a slightly less offer from another club than give him to the Pies

How does that saying go again, "don't cut off your nose to spite your face" or something? WC are in the business of winning games (and ultimately premierships), if he wants to go, lets get the best deal possible.

 (Recoiling in terror at thought of what could have happened in recent years if the Blues could have traded future picks, as they do in the US).

Never know. We might yet have a priority pick this year and we could throw in a set of steak knives :)

yes but they'd have no less number of players coming off contract that any other club, and they'd all (especially the younger guys) be looking for pay increases.

It wouldn't be the first time that Collingwood has been into this sort of thing. I can recall asking Rohan about whether it was ethical for Collingwood to do an in-principle deal with the coach of another club with half a year of his contract to run, as was rumoured. I didn't get an answer, to my amazement.

I'm fairly hopeful that Judd stays, but if he doesn't, well, that's a shame but life goes on. It's far too early in the season to be speculating on the likely mechanics of the draw, if a deal isn't done with another club.

PS: I resent being called a chardonnay sipper - when I drink, it tends to go down the chute without touching the sides.
