Point taken, but that's all i'm saying. I'm fine if the deals not right, don't want us paying overs and getting screwed, but like to know we are in the game, not just "happy"

There's a part of us that wants to see some action and an immediate perceived benefit.

I'd love for us to get overs on every trade also, but we targeted specifics and if they didn't work out, then so be it.
We just need players that make us immediately better and not just players to pad up the numbers, just in case.
We have a pretty good 25 - 32 grouping to cover short term injuries with some good kids coming through.

I think we can easily forget that we hardly had a week this year where we didn't have several of our best 10 players unavailable for injury..............and that was with a crap coach ))

It is stupid to get caught up in a publicly followed negotiation e.g. Caddy as it drives the price of the player up and the buying team gets ripped off just because the media hype and the interest from other clubs builds up a players worth. We are much better off negotiating under the radar and picking up a Laidler for next to nothing. Just because the club is playing down interest and the media are somehow turning the lack of news into a story doesn't mean the club is doing nothing to improve the list. We had a very strong best 22 as demonstrated by the form we showed in particular parts of the year but our depth was exposed through injuries to key players. Many of the players that came in to fill the holes had very little to no experience at AFL level and as such another full preseason under their belts coupled with the experience gained this season and a new coach who has a reputation of getting the best out of players will undoubtedly see the list improve for next season.

About 3 years back Vossy got very active at trade time. Lots of people were going "wow, Vossy's on the move"

Got them nowhere, although we did well out of it

No point trading for trading's sack. We went for Cloke, didn't get him, expressed interest in Tippett but we're outgunned by Sydney which has salary cap concessions.

And no point trading picks / fringe players for other fringe players, almost a waste of time, unless it's something like Dawes (fringe player, but we need a forward hulk) for Warnock (fringe player, but Pies need a ruckman).

We've got pick 11 in a strong draft, and no we haven't offered it to get Caddy - Caddy's a good player but this whole "get Caddy thing at all costs," is getting out of hand.

I'd like to think we are trading for specific needs, not just for the sake of it.

Let's face it, Russell, Bower & Thornton will be booted anyway and hope we don't trade for another deadwood from another club. If we could trade them for picks well and good.
