and at the end of the day, the Victorian clubs get to have the Grand Final on their home ground, or at the very least a ground they have played at a lot more than a non-Victorian club.
Lol Sydney play at the MCG 4 times this year compared to Bulldogs' 2.
Last year, Sydney played 2 home and away games at the MCG. Bulldogs played 2.

The grand final was Sydney's 4th time playing at the MCG. It was also Bulldogs' 4th time.

Stop searching for excuses

That's because Hawthorn are one of two Victorian teams with significant home ground advantage with the Tasmanian deal while maintaining a good presence at the MCG. The other being Geelong.

To Essendon, travelling to Perth is similar to West Coast travelling to Skilled Stadium when talking about home ground advantage as we can only play a maximum of 2 games there against a team that plays at Subiaco 12 times a year. Similar to West Coast playing a maximum of 1 game at Skilled against a team that plays there 7 (or maybe even 8) times.

West Coast play at Etihad 5 times this year, which is more than half of Essendon's 9 games at Etihad this year (3 of which are games against Etihad tenants St Kilda, North and Bulldogs). Next week we will play there against Melbourne for the first time while it will be Melbourne's 3rd game there.

This is why interstate sides have more of a true home ground advantage than Victorian sides except Geelong and probably Hawthorn.
So that's why Geelong and Hawthorn have been so successful the last 10 years! Myth busted.

Please. We are talking differences of less than 2 metres. Its purely in the head
It's about where they are trained to be positioned. Too much emphasis on guarding space rather than the ball then when it's turned over there are no options.

Yepp, but wouldnt say its exclusive to Melb.
Dont forget how s**t you are at the SCG as well. Thats a nice little 3 Wins from 17 games record.

Adds up doesnt it.

Not a good record, but also not anywhere near as important a record. We've been playing 30 years and haven't played a final at the SCG.

Our finals record at venues that are still used:

Subiaco 9-4
MCG 5-11
Etihad 0-1
ANZ Stadium 0-1 (if it's still used)

The only one that really matters is the MCG. We could be 100% at Subiaco but that isn't where GFs are played.

The biggest problem come finals IMO is unfamiliarity. Vic teams seem to get a free pass for 'having to travel to Perth' when we get a home final but if we lose going the other way we are pretenders. Winning at the G during the season or in finals is no guarantee of GF success anyway.

MCG to Subi?

Its more like 19m difference in width (at centre square) , though I agree its still likely to be as much mental as anything these are still significantly different grounds.

Will be interesting to see what both WA team's home and away records are like once we've been at the new ground a few years.

So many delusional west coast supporters, blame everyone else but their own players who choke every time they play at the MCG
I think we'd know a lot more than someone like you who watches 1 every 5 Eagles games

You genuinely believe its a coaching issue? Wow
Yes because I am certain it is

They are full of soft front runners that look great at sanctuary of Subiaco in front of a loud home crowd and 3 umpires riding on their back, but on the road under any sort of pressure fold faster than superman on laundry day.

Jack Darling is such a great fit, a big well built man but he plays like an absolute fairy and crumbles under any serious pressure.
They remind me of the Indian cricket team. They will always win at home but once they leave India, they can win anywhere else.

Or in my Case, they are the AFLs equivalent of Tough man Tony Abbott. Happy to pick on the smaller opponents, Then threatens to Shirt front Putin. Then Putin waits to carry on the 'threat'. Abbott then backs down like a pair of budgie smugglers.

Doubt it's the players. More the coaches. Stupid corralling instead of actually tackling. The amount of times Eagles kicked, marked, kicked marked today compared to running with handball was about 10:1 ratio and when they ran with handball is when they actually scored.

It's been the players since Woosha mate and im not talking about their potential or skill because the list has been there for at least 5 years its a mindset/confidence thing which is the hardest thing to coach in most cases it clicks, this group they go out like a training drill if it doesn't come off they crumble to pieces which is exactly why they're flat track bullies as much as I hate to admit.

They all click when its easy but when its hard they're rubbish there's been no solid consistency from them that screams champions longer than a qtr or a game.

Panic Panic Panic.

Can WCE win a flag given their track record at the MCG. they seem to really struggle with the wider ground.

also to add to this question, do they have an issue next year given the new perth stadium is going to have new dimensions which are close to the MCG than subi?
The only way the Eagles could win this years flag is the same way they won it in 2006: Finish in the Top 2, Win the QF, Win the Prelim and Hope and Pray they have a non Victorian side as their opponent. They should be 4-1 right now. They should win the Derby next round. Only other way they can win the flag this year is by getting top 4, Beat a non Vic Side in the Qualifying final, win the home pre lim and get a non-vic side in the GF.
Damn, had we won in 2015 it would be the biggest smash n grab in modern history. How the f did we make the GF that year with this team.

I will say this to you right now, Had Freo beaten the Hawks in the 2015 Prelim, Eagles would of won the 2015 GF with an injury riddled dockers outfit.

I think its fair to cast some doubt on the coaching. We could never win on the road till Lyon came. Once he got the new gameplay sorted we started winning practically anywhere with largely the same group of players. We still have a bit of trouble at the G as we only get to play there once a year pretty much but as was shown a couple of rounds ago we can get it done there.
Our new training facility allows us to quickly configure the oval to the exact configuration of wherever we are playing for match sims so that can't hurt.

Your finals record at the MCG is only 5 wins and 11 losses? That's not right. They won at least 5 finals games in Melbourne from 1990-94. Plus they beat the Dogs at the MCG in 1999 and won at the MCG in the 2006 GF.

Still remember the 2010 season. Didn't play a game at the MCG until we lost to Geelong in the 2010 semi final.
